with flying cars everywhere, developing ultra sophisticated rockets that can break the speed of light, colonising other planets
,discovery and communication with real extra terrestial life form etc

Well we live in the future now, would you say we have met the expectation of how people from the past picture what the future will/should/might look like

I think they will be disappointed on some "our generation landed human on the moon and your bytch ass still haven't found a way to transport and
land humans on mars yet, also where are the flying cars":gucci::gucci:

The cold war eneded too soon. All of these things were the result of competition between soviets and america. Once soviets left the stage, there was no motivation for the us to do any of that sht. If gorbachav ignored reagan's silly "tear down that wall" provacations and sent a rocket to mars, i garuntee you the US govt would have a space base on alpha Centauri by now.

We missed all that futuristic stuff.

Now im p retty sure we wont do anything cool even in our future because if VR. Why on earth would i invent a flying car and pay for billions of dollars in research, when i could spend a weekend coding a digital car and charge people to run the program?

Considering the tech, we have basically arrived at the Dawn of that era. Some of the speedboats and race cars we have defy logic at times and folks already got legitamite air and water powered hover crafts. I think a ton of that element they were predicting was a bit too much to expect commercially
BUT

At the same time, I do think to myself
What if we were capable of exceeding those imaginative expectations and we actually have been developing slower than we should on purpose?

Only person who remotely nailed some of these “predictions” was Gene Roddenberry.

- flip phones / cell phones
- iPads / tablats
- giant flat TVs
- bluetooth
- voice assistants

All of this and at least 10 more technologies we have now were in Star Trek in the 60s
