So we're broke because we're being honest about the expensive maintenance cost?? What?

Anyways to me BMWs are overrated. Here in NY I see them on the streets all the time and so they lose their "exoticness". Everyone and their mother wants one.

I say to the OP be different and get another stylish luxury vehicle that hardly anyone drives. Don't be apart of the crowd....
I remember when I lived in Manhattan there were like 5 silver E46 325is parked either behind or across the street from each other. Them shyts are fake baller Civics. The 5s and up will eat u alive with maintenance. Buying a car to impress people is :trash: Get a car that is comfy, reliable and enjoyable for u to drive.

My 2005 Altima with 85,000 miles has given me no problems. ( knock on wood). The most I've had to buy was brakes, a couple batteries, tires, windshield wipers.
I've had offers to buy my car from dealers and I've always said no
I plan to get something next year. Maybe a used jag xk. But I wouldn't sell or trade my Altima. Never understood why people trade in payed for cars

as a man you should know if you can afford the car you own or not.

I mean come on wtf
A 10 year old X5 is like $10K. The money is not the issue. It's having a car that will be in the shop a lot just to impress strangers. People dont give a shyt about new Bimmers like that... its not the 80s. So they damn sure dont give a shyt about old ones. Might as well get a Murano or FX or something.

Idk maybe because what a lot to guys in this forum consider a lot is pocket change to people who drive the cars you guys gush over or have the know how to work on their own car.

No one said BMWs are special but they're a step up from your typical Asian or American car.

We're not talking about the cost of the car we're talking about maintenance. Would you rather drive a 30 year old BMW or MPV?

I'll be lying if I said I do not want a car to stunt... But I do have sense to NOT want to be financially eaten alive and work at a job that I do not like just to pay off the car...

By this post I think you're not getting what people are saying. I'm still in my early 20s and work retail, but I know with determination and saving like crazy that I can cop a used older model of a BMW. And I mean the car itself, but(excluding insurance) I will NOT be able to afford the car in the LONG RUN. Get it? A person can afford a used old BMW for $12,000, but in the long run it'll cost him money just to maintain it.

And those people who consider having BMWs "pocket change" are most likely people with a lot of money and are not the average joe.

As for the bolded, true... Not gonna deny that, but I'd rather take a Dodge Challenger over any BMW... That's just me.

What does "knowing if u can afford the car or not" have to do with maintenance?

But yea, if we are talking about maintenance, European cars tend to be the worst. A Japanese equivalent will cost the same and be just as luxurious and high performing without all the trips to the dealer. And since nobody gives a shyt about 10 year old Bimmers that cost the same as a 5 year old Corolla, theres really no point to buying it (which is why they are so cheap used).

I guess you couldn't address the sh*t I said. My point still stands and mostly everyone in this thread agrees to these same points. Anyone(with a decent paying job) can purchase a used old BMW ITSELF if they really wanted one(again excluding insurance), but in the long run the car is gonna be expensive.

Such an asinine conversation. If you can't afford it you can't. Do you want a cookie? Buy cars you can afford.
