What does "knowing if u can afford the car or not" have to do with maintenance?

But yea, if we are talking about maintenance, European cars tend to be the worst. A Japanese equivalent will cost the same and be just as luxurious and high performing without all the trips to the dealer. And since nobody gives a shyt about 10 year old Bimmers that cost the same as a 5 year old Corolla, theres really no point to buying it (which is why they are so cheap used).
How drunk are you?

High maintenance cars are only worth it in warranty. Paying for repairs on a 10 year old BMW as a daily driver makes no sense, even if you can afford it. Only way to do those old German cars is like if you want a weekend car or something for track days and shyt. Trying to depend on an out of warranty German car is no bueno.

My 2006 Altima is at 90k miles but I'm not really feeling it anymore. Thinking about buying an older model Bmw 5 series or X5 that will definitely be over 110k miles.

Thought about riding out with it for as long as possible but I need something new.
You might get $4,000 to $6,500 for the Altima.
I guess you could try to get into an older BMW 5-series like 2002 or 2003. But you'll want to have a couple thousand dollars to fix up things like the struts and brakes.

Not a diss...I don't enjoy high maintenance anything!
BMW, compared to your Altima, is going to cost an arm and a leg and maybe a couple trips to the sperm bank, to pay for regular maintenance. It is redonkulous, but at least you'll probably get a free car wash. :russ:

When you own a BMW, it is cheaper to do the labor yourself on easy maintenance tasks. The parts cost a lot compared to domestic cars too. I had an older 3-series. The cost of a cap and rotor on a BMW was multiple times higher than an American car distributor cap and rotor. If you would like a 5-series, it's a nice ride, but there's maintenance involved to keep it running well. If you don't do regular maintenance, you are going to get stuck on the side of the road unexpectedly.

Don't get the x5. Bmw v8 engines during that time where known to have problems. What 5 series are you looking at? E39 or the ugly ass e60
