I wish I had a reason to buy one.

Let's be honest, PS2 sold like hotcakes and had great games, PS3 very similar but little less......PS4 for many ppl became a dust collector. PS5 has few and far between a variety of games for everyone. Ppl don't want a $500 dust collector
Ps3 was criticized for having no games the first 3 years of its life. It only sold well from 2009 onwards.

Ps4 did really well and had lots of great games and the ps5 has sold remarkably considering the pricing and supply issues. So everything your saying is incorrectly

Kids in working class families do not have the latest video game systems. This is why Fortnite Minecraft, Among Us type games are the biggest games in the world.
And dudes wonder why “Exclusives” are dying. :smh:

I been saying it for years, the console market peaked a long time ago.

Only way to combat rising dev/hardware costs is to squeeze more money out of each individual user through DLC, Microtransactions, Remakes, subscriptions, etc.

That was working for a while but they have now maxed out what they can squeeze out of each individual, and the unintended consequence is that now people are stuck on “forever” games like Roblox, Fortnight, etc. They spend lots of money on those games but most of their time goes there as well so the rest of the industry is fighting over limited time and attention to their games.

So now the only way to grow is to find gamers outside of each individual platform or more accurately expand the platform beyond one piece of hardware.

Console wars died a long time ago. The games media/fans are just now realizing it.

Somewhere tropic...
Yeah lets make both consoles indistinguishable from each other
in fact pushing consumers to PC
that will make sales skyrocket :krs:

1) its July

2) by now game consoles should have price drops.

The ps2 price was down to $199 by 2002, from $299 when it released in 2000. And by 2004 it was $149.

But now, a ps5 is still over $500, despite being 5 years in.

It should have been like $299 by now.
This is the issue right here.

The 6 figs/6 certs Coli breh may or may not game on PC....but he will buy a console pretty soon after it comes out because he can afford it. Buy the PS5 & Xbox and wait for games.

Then you have someone who has less disposable income. They have enough to buy "something" but not at launch prices. They wait for the console price to drop and get in later in the lifecycle. PS5 should be $299 or even $249 by now but it's still $$$$$. The people that would normally jump in late, aren't jumping in. Sales naturally slow down over time but it might be a bit faster than normal.

Yeah. its why they continue pumping new, hype games for these consoles years after they release. Theres people who didn't jump in early but got in later

It's why the ps1 abd ps2 were the biggest selling consoles ever. It got cheap, and they continued promoting it and pumping out quality new games

Yeah those systems were affordable 3-4 years later and also being able to mod helped

PS5 been out for 5 years and for example here in canada on release it was 599. 5 years later its still 580 but the economy is much worse now than it was 5 years ago. Games are also much more expensive

A new game is 90 dollars with tax almost 100 dollars for ONE GAME

And lastly, housing and groceries were comparatively much cheaper. So even though those consoles costed a lot when you adjust for inflation, it was easier to save for them back then

XSX, PS5, and Switch 1 been out for like 5+ years, how many consoles do they realistically expect to sell at this point
Exactly, who the fukk doesn't have one? If anything sales are related to replacing, damaged, stolen ones. There's very few people like "I've wanted one, I just haven't had the chance to get one, I'll probably get the PS5 around black Friday"
