Maybe Mariah always wanted to go to WWE but signed the AEW deal because it was short term and was better money than an NXT contract AEW can't afford to play hardball with younger talent, specially on the women side 2 years ago, they needed it way more than WWE.

Nowadays any wrestler that isn't a top main eventer shouldn't sign any contract longer than 3 years. When you have 2 companies that are gucci with TV money for the next 3-5 years, you know you have a chance of making them outbid themselves for you in the short term.

AEW definitely fumbled Cody Rhodes. They definitely fumbled Penta/Fenix. They definitely fumbled Starks. An argument can be made for Jade but I don't think so. They booked her well, she wanted to go to WWE pretty much no matter what.

WWE fumbled Swerve. They fumbled Toni Storm. They fumbled Mercedes. They fumbled Lashley/Shelton. They potentially fumbled Ricochet.
