I think this is a wonderful idea.

In all honesty, there are many teams in 3/4 pro leagues that are complete failures and have no need to exist.

In the NBA

Toronto
Charlotte
Atlanta
Orlando
Sacramento
Phoenix
Minnesota
Portland

I say take them 8 away and not the league would be infinitely better.

I don't feel MLB needs this
It's usually not the team with all the great players who win

Somebody has to suck.. Since the dawn of sports you had the 'ying and the yang'. Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, etc. You have the good teams and the bad teams. If you contract somebody has to make up for those losses. They're will still be crappy teams. This is a huge country. Texas is the size of England and England's soccer leagues are huge. Just think if Texas or California had its own NBA or NFL leagues. The population is still rising worldwide so there's never a shortage of new players to pull from. Unless a team is struggling financially I never get the contraction talk at all

I know. Why are people agreeing with this ?the warriors were bad for years should they have been contracted ? Teams can turn themselves around

No. First of all that means less money for the league so you can throw that idea in the bushes immediately. Secondly, the idea that the NBA and other leagues were more competitive in the past is a lie. When was this? Was it in the 60's when the Celtics won like 11 out of 13 'ships, including 8 in a row? Or the 80's when the Lakers and Celtics just took turns winning it all? No it had to be the 90's when the Bulls won 6 of the 10 years.

Its always been trash teams in the league. Nothing wrong with that. Its how we get treated to those things called "upsets" now and then.

I know . And with cycles next year Washington and Cleveland could be back in the playoffs or even Toronto . If we contracted Memphis them we wouldn't have them in the playoffs now

its clear you're just arbitrarily picking teams that are currently on the lower end of the competitive scale with no rhyme or reason.

Some of the "failures" that you're picking are some of the more profitable and valued franchises in the league, lol. Yeah, lets just start contracting teams that are worth hundreds of millions, and rake in millions each year for the hell of it. Thread is dumb.

No I don't agree with contraction, but the 16 teams with the best record should make the playoffs regardless of conference
