  • Al-Maqrizi (died in 1442), Egyptian historian. His main contribution is his description of Cairo markets.
  • Leo Africanus (died circa 1548), author of Descrittione dell’ Africa or Description of Africa, a rare description of Africa.
  • Rifa'a al-Tahtawi (1801–1873), who translated medieval works on geography and history. His work is mostly about Muslim Egypt.

I live ten min from dearborn mi. There are Sunni who would jump on a shia just for the way they pray, , is that Islam.

The way the Prophet family did things should matter to Sunni... and any sunni who doesn't care about that is more wrong than any Shia...

Shia have the same version of the Holy Quran. .... most of the split is man made.

Well, if you want to observe the religion before you commit I'd say try fasting one or two days especially considering we are in the last 10 days of Ramadan which are said to be the most blessed days. It is said that you can get whatever you pray for during these last 10 days. Good luck!

So the majority of revolutionary black movements in amerikka have been lead or influenced by black muslims.

Islam is increasing converts and births each year.... especially among black people. .. not the broke in some remote village black people like you would think. ...it's many urban and suburbanites from the west.. Amerikka and western Europe.
Me and my friends who converted all have masters degrees or more.
There is a push in Islam to read and discover knowledge so that appeals to many people.

I agree the differences are man made, but for a convert it'd be easier not to be associated with that stuff even if they are a minority of Shia's.

Agreed. Sunni/Shia is purely political. Early muslims should've been ashamed of themselves for letting the religion fracture like that. I don't identify as either...just as a muslim. I'm not going to sit here and argue about who should've been the first to lead after the prophet's death, peace be upon him. How is that relevant to me worshipping God? It's not. I have the Quran, I have the hadith, I have my conscious and intellect. I feel the same about Israel. Having "muslim control" Israel doesn't strengthen my relationship with God, it does, however, strengthen idolatry, which us muslims were warned about.
