perfect timing... finally listening to this for the first time... what'd you think? (I know you said it somewhere in here but this shyt 10 pages)
This is/was always my fear of them going to Shady. Its the label where artist go to die. Daringer and Alchemist just sample way too much for Conway and WSG to make it over there. I wish the best for them but this Shady shyt was a mistake.Conway confirmed that Shady wanted them to either not use samples or have them replayed by live instruments, so he that's why he dropped the album the way he did.
I think it's pretty good. I like Reject 2 better. I dunno. I'm home for Xmas and listened to this again on the road today.perfect timing... finally listening to this for the first time... what'd you think? (I know you said it somewhere in here but this shyt 10 pages)
I feel the exact same way. I listened to this multiple times and something just feels off. Its flat as hell and low key boring and I like Conway but like you said he needs WSG and they work better as a duo.I think it's pretty good. I like Reject 2 better. I dunno. It felt more repetitive than some of their other stuff. I really think having WSG and Conway works better for both of them than either individually. They work best as a duo.
But at least a WSG hook here or there would've been a welcome burst of energy. Conway alone is just missing some depth or charisma to carry a full album. When Raekwon, Benny, Prodigy, and Banks come on this album, they shine bright.
I want to like this project more than I do. I really like about half of it and the other half I don't really like that much at all.
On this project more than any of his others, I found myself ready for the featured artist to start rapping. I definitely like this more than devils rejects and more steroids but that's about it. Conway is what he says he is. A rapping machine. But he doesn't feel as much like an "artist" as WSG, Mach Hommy, or even Benny.
Damn, I'm sort of shytting on this. I know people are liking it and it's dope.
Edit: my favorite tracks are bishop shot steel, die on xmas, bullet klub, trump, and arabian sams.
Boring is what I didn't want to say but I was literally on the highway today tuning out and daydreaming halfway through Conway's verses on GOAT, Th3rd F, XXXtras, and Mandatory.I feel the exact same way. A lot of the production fell flat to me too. The 1 bar vocal loop on Third F for 6 minutes is like 4 minutes too long. The beat on Mandatory reminds me of something that didn't make the final cut for Prhyme, and the beat for GOAT sounds like it's building up to something that never happens.
I really hate that I seem like such a hater on this.
Still looking forward to Hall & Nash 2 though, which seems like it will finally come out soon.
