Back in the 00s and early 10s NBA media channels were not as dominant as they are now. You had a lot of fan made NBA mixes all over the internet. And for NBA player to have his mixtapes all over the internet, he had to be a flashy player with enough crazy highlights. Nobody was making videos of Big Z or Hedo, besides maybe some random European channel.

If you weren't watching NBA games straight up back then, and you weren't from Europe, you did not get much information about players like Big Z or Hedo. Euros weren't as popular as they are nowadays in NBA. And McCants? Disappointing career outside of UNC.

It’s not really that it’s the social climate. These kids grew up on instagram and tik tok. All they know is 25 second clips And it’s completely fried any semblance of an attention span they could have had.
