I just looked up the 970m. It can't do VR very well. He's missing out on a key component to PC gaming exclusivity. :manny:

Everywhere
The desktop class ones require a separate plug in right? I know alienware was doing that with the desktop-level GPUs. It's not worth the money if you ask me (unless you have money to blow).
Nah, not the external ones. Higher end gaming laptops are using using underclocked desktop class gpus with higher cuda cores to get better performance than the past mobile gpus. But they're like $1500 and above so it's kinda pointless if someone is deciding between that or a desktop.

Not pointless.

Not everyone wants a command center in their living room

in most cases I think people are better off building a good desktop, and then getting a cheap craptop for portability (or just use your phone). I mean are you really out there playing AAA games at Starbucks?

obviously portability is nice, but you end up paying such a premium for half ass parts. not to mention they often can't even be easily upgraded

Price isn't an issue to me. When I go out if town I bring the laptop. At home im mainly in the living room. I'm not trying to sit up some gaudy clunky ass computer in my living room and I'm not retreating to another room to play games stoppit. High end laptop is a premium product for a premium consumer.

you really can't get around it. cause whatever tech they manage to cram in there, it could do better with more power and better thermal conditions
