My question is did you buy the Mac or did your job provide it?

If it was provided by your company I can sympathize. If not I mean it’s really on you...

A dock is a necessity for me at desk. Although, the one I use is way more expensive and powerful TS3 Plus | Thunderbolt 3 Dock – CalDigit. Not made by apple either and works with any computer similar to first.

The gig provided it.

My laptop shyt the bed awhile ago and I'm looking to get a new one

Using it mainly for web browsing, streaming movies/tv and possibly getting into video editing. I want to be able to have bout 15 tabs open without the shyt getting sluggish.

Should I just get the new Macbook Air with the M1 chip? :lupe: Never had a macbook before. if any coli brehs have it let me know how its working for you so far.

also looking at the Dell XPS 13 and the Acer Swift 3. Looking to spend $1000 or less.

:hubie:Don't take offense breh but what programs do you use to warrant spending your whole stimulus on a laptop?

Something to think about.

If your just browsing and doing nonsense you can get something for 450

Apple is nice but unless you using specific mac programs I don't see much of a purpose.

Windows is cheaper and Windows 10 doesn't give any problems...

My 2018 MacBook Pro died twice. Logic board the first time then the screen 2nd time. Shipped off to apple repair and got it back in 3 days both times but goddamn. It was a year old at that point.

more info directly from Apple:

"Safely open apps on your Mac
macOS includes a technology called Gatekeeper, that's designed to ensure that only trusted software runs on your Mac.

...

Privacy protections
macOS has been designed to keep users and their data safe while respecting their privacy.

Gatekeeper performs online checks to verify if an app contains known malware and whether the developer’s signing certificate is revoked. We have never combined data from these checks with information about Apple users or their devices. We do not use data from these checks to learn what individual users are launching or running on their devices.

Notarization checks if the app contains known malware using an encrypted connection that is resilient to server failures.

These security checks have never included the user’s Apple ID or the identity of their device. To further protect privacy, we have stopped logging IP addresses associated with Developer ID certificate checks, and we will ensure that any collected IP addresses are removed from logs.

In addition, over the the next year we will introduce several changes to our security checks:

  • A new encrypted protocol for Developer ID certificate revocation checks
  • Strong protections against server failure
  • A new preference for users to opt out of these security protections
