I think Stoute is subconsciously trying to justify why he ruined what could have been an all-time great rap group to hip-hop fans. He said that shyt on Drink Champs, a hip-hop podcast, so he knows its primarily heads that are listening to it. By going at AZ and Mega like that, what he's trying to get at is they were holding Nas back (which is bullshyt obviously). I doubt this type of shyt keeps Stoute up at night, he likely doesn't really give a fukk, but when he's pressed on things like how he guided Nas career and how he affected AZ and Mega's career he still seems to get defensive and lash out. Maybe he's also playing up that "I'm an industry dude who only sees dollar signs" character on some troll shyt too, who knows.

The good thing is Nas is his own label now so he can stay neutral if Mega and Stoute throw shots at each other publicly.
This is a very interesting angle I never thought of. The Firm should have been huge, a movement. Stoute left money on the table. And instead of blaming himself - namely his focus on Trackmasters beats, the focus on mafioso flamingo beats instead of the sound that made them hot (80s r&b Queens shyt), not enough Dre - he blames others. It’s all on him. Everyone else did their job.

He’s not.

They are still cool and Stoute looks out with a business opportunity from time to time (I think Nas said in the podcast with Common that Steve Stoute was the one who made the connect with Nas and. Anthony Selah to the man who helped Nas create his Queensbridge Ventures firm)

But Stoute isn’t Nas manager or an official part of his team

Which podcast is this?

This.

He's gotten to where he is, by pitting people against each other and doing underhanded shyt to move forward in business. He knows how to manipulate people and use that to his advantage. He's done that pretty much his whole career after doing his road manager gig. It's how he's moved into the more powerful circles. Definitely a snake.

where are you getting this take from?

It's pretty much common knowledge since his Trackmasters days.

Everyone I know that's been around dude or has done business with him, has the exact same stories. And if you follow how his dealings have always gone down, you can see how he's been able to move in to getting close to certain people, in order to seal things for himself down the line. He's been doing it for 25+ years.

Hell even Nas said he lost trust for the man and openly questioned his loyalty

Word.

Marley Marl said that Stoute was the reason why Nas dropped him from executive producing It Was Written. He was working with Nas on the album at first, and then he said "all of sudden" Nas accused him of leaking records and said he wanted to go over to work with Trackmasters, to make the album more mainstream. He said he couldn't even get Nas on the phone after that. Next thing you know, Stoute is the executive producer for the album, lol. And as Trackmasters' manager, that means he was seeing like 1/4 of the album's royalties too. Marley said, "people should ask Stoute about what really happened with that."

Well Nas kinda stood by the Marley accusations years later when he talked about On The Real. He’d go to Marley’s place and lay a verse then come back and a bunch of other MC’s had laid verses on it. Plus the leaks.
