Don’t forget them forcing him into retirement under the cover of pretending to care about his health

:mjlol: Y'all still believe this?

So when the same thing happened with Edge, what was the ulterior motive behind that?

Y'all really feel that a guy spent the better part of the last 2 years of his career injured, had seizures, wrestled despite knowing of these physical issues, but it's all secretly a ruse by WWE in order to push another guy.

Edge had spinal stenosis. Same reason Michael Irvin and Steve Austin had to hang up their helmet and boots. Bryan does not have that. Every doctor except Vince’s doctor has cleared him. The same year Bryan was forced out, they let tommy dreamer in the ring under their banner and he says he’s suffering from signs of dementia/cte. Just as important as these things, Edge was a homegrown star and the crowd wasn’t shytting on a handpicked star to cheer for him. This is pretty obvious. Given the history of this company, when have they ever shown themselves to not be petty enough that they’ll ruin a good thing to feed Vince’s ego or care about he most profitable angle or the health of their wrestlers. Vince doesn’t even provide these guys with health insurance, but he’s gonna be so concerned about Bryan and his well being that he won’t let him in the ring? Come on :punkcomeon:

To me, the moment they destroyed Reigns for good was when he first won the title. There was that pointless feud with Vince/League of Nations where we were supposed to believe that Reigns was an anti-authority rebel being held down by the man. Then he wins back the title in the same arena that booed him out of town at the beginning of the year, but now they've embraced him and Vince has what he wants. So what do they do now that he's over? Have him defend the title in the Royal Rumble for some stupid reason, and then have him lose it for some stupid reason, so they can have another coronation for some stupid reason.

They should have just let him run with the belt from Survivor Series until Rollins came back. The crowd would have eventually accepted him. Instead, they have him lose the belt twice, have him win it three times, and put him in situations where he can't possibly be looked at a sympathetic babyface. They got what they wanted and they still fukked it up. :mindblown:

Aside from what I reference a lot with Vince wanting nobody to truly become a star so that they don’t have leverage over him, the other problem is that he has no idea how to try new things or book a compelling face. He’s been using the evil boss angle since late 1997 now and he’s been trying to use the superhero face overcoming the odds angle since hogan in the mid 1980’s. That doesn’t work for everyone. Let someone find their niche and run with it.

Roman was thriving as a man of few words who simply wrecked shyt and knew he was a bad motherfukker, so he didn’t have to say much. Go back and look at how they booked him at the 2013 survivor series, the 2014 royal rumble match, and generally what his role in the shield was. It fit him well and he just as importantly looked and felt like he fit in the role. When a character is in a role that fits them, it allows the crowd to suspend disbelief and immerse themselves in the show. Austin vs McMahon made sense and fit because Austin didn’t project a corporate friendly image and it’s entirely plausible that Vince would want a corporate friendly image in his champ and would do anything to keep the belt away from someone he felt represented the company in a way he didn’t want.

As you mentioned, they dropped the ball two years ago with Roman by essentially repeating the angle going into the 1999 royal rumble where Austin had to start the match. The fact is there’s no reason that management should say they don’t want him as champ, because he doesn’t have some rough around the edges personality (if anything he doesn’t really have any personality at all), he’s not much of a rule breaker, and he doesn’t really attack people without provocation like Austin would. I don’t even know what sort of persona he could make work because it doesn’t feel like he’s actually ever been given the chance to just go out and be him or use his own ideas to get over. At this point I think the only way to save face with him is a corporate champion type persona since we all know Vince loves him and if it’s based in reality, it should come more naturally to him and feel authentic and therefore believable as a result.

They fukked it up because Triple H had to have another meaningless title run, pick up a second Rumble win, and the delusion that he’s some type of gatekeeper, that guys can only really become The Man after taking him on.

Once the Sheamus/Vince stuff actually worked, they should have stepped back and changed course, but that would have meant someone would have lost his Mania main event and that couldn’t happen.
