If cuomo can get the other surrounding states to agree, the Northeast will be on full lockdown by the weekend

We went into full lockdown yesterday nobody can come into the country expect citizens and people who are already here. This will simply be a way of life until a vaccine is made. Mask on and no public gatherings. The virus we can handle but the economy we can't. The funny thing too is everyone here has mask on, still not sure how this damn thing is spreading.

But Industries and certain sections of the economy will collapse to zero here. It's going to be rough!
i think the normal mask does little to prevent infection. its more useful for air pollution than preventing a virus.

only the N95s really do shyt against Corona right?

I’m an electrician apprentice and literally started this week and our company higher ups are having meetings every morning discussing what the plan is during the virus. So far business as usual, but downtown Cincy, where my current job site is, has been more deserted than I’d have expected. I feel like they’re feeling the pressure to put us off for a couple weeks due to all the businesses around us going off. I dunno. I have money saved up and honestly know my parents would float me some cash if I needed it, but we work mostly in isolation right now so I hope they don’t see the need to shut us down. The number of infected keep rising though. Trying not to be alarmist but I know I’m not the only one who eyeballs a person for a second when they cough right now

The US numbers outside of huge cities don’t seem to be climbing as fast as I thought they would be now.

I’m sure this is wishful thinking but is there any chance that due to some x-factor that isn’t known yet, the U.S. might get hit even a little bit less hard than expected?
Geography maybe?

Kind of. Normal surgical Masks don’t protect well against most viruses, but they are great if you are the one that’s sick. So whether you have symptoms or not, they can greatly reduce your own ability to spread the virus.

Yeah, I thought so as well but a study has shown no difference for medical workers who have worn a respirator mask or surgical mask on the line to fight infectious air illness.

A study published today in JAMA compared the ubiquitous surgical (or medical) mask, which costs about a dime, to a less commonly used respirator called an N95, which costs around $1. The study reported, "no significant difference in the effectiveness" of medical masks vs. N95 respirators for the prevention of influenza or other viral respiratory illness.

Surgical masks as good as respirators for flu and respiratory virus protection
