I get that but if the economy stays closed till August we are going into a full depression. That’s just the economic facts. The economy shut down for three weeks and look at the carnage on the job market. We got seasonal jobs that do well in spring and summer that if stay closed those people will lose their jobs. Another 4 months? Nah that is economic suicide. We will be in a depression worst that the last one. And I for one do not want to see that. This country cannot survive with unemployment north of 20%.
A lot of these jobs aren't coming back for a while. Restaurants, movie theaters, arenas/stadiums, museums, airlines will still be shutdown.

Are YOU going out to eat in a month? Where are you gonna fly? There won't be any concerts or sporting events.

Exactly.

Let the virus keep spreading and they won't be back for another year. We'd end up having to shutdown multiple times.

You'll get an another round(s) of stimulus before this is done.

You let the economy open up and 200K are dead by August and not only are people mourning mass loss, they are afraid to work. Now you've really got a depression on your hands. You've let the virus become unstoppable, both physically and psychologically.

You have to take the pain upfront. Letting the virus ravage the population, overload the healthcare system, and kill hundreds of thousands would also be political suicide for the current federal government.

Mitigate death as much as possible, buy your healthcare system some time, and maybe its possible we can get things moving again in Q3 albeit at a far reduced pace.

That's really only plan that is going to work and its the one the entire world is taking right now.

This is the thing that the "we have to open everything back up, the economy can't take it..." crowd fail to realize, if you think there was hysteria before, wait until those death numbers start doubling and tripling what we see today.

There is no economic difference between forced shutdown and self-imposed shutdown out of fear.

Do it right now so you don't have to do it again later. The economy will be fine, if you've learned nothing else from our country during this time its that $$ will be made despite in life as in death.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio once again had differing opinions on who has authority to implement certain Covid-19 policies.

This time, it involved De Blasio’s announcement on Saturday morning that New York City schools would remain closed for the rest of the school year. De Blasio said his administration is forging a “comprehensive plan” to safely reopen schools in September and that “next year is going to have to be the greatest academic year New York public schools have ever had.”

At Cuomo’s daily press briefing shortly thereafter, however, the governor contended “there has been no decision on [closing New York City] schools.”

Cuomo added: “When we made the decision to close the schools, we made it for the entire region. Any decision to reopen them will also be a coordinated decision.”

Cuomo was then pressed on the topic and De Blasio’s earlier statements. “That’s his opinion. He didn’t close them and he can’t open them,” Cuomo said “It happened on a metropolitan-wide basis and we’ll act on a metropolitan basis, coordinating with Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester [counties].”

Cuomo insisted school closures and reopenings were his call. “It is my legal authority in this situation,” he told reporters.

Freddi Goldstein, De Blasio’s press secretary, took issue with Cuomo’s comments.

Makes sense, go ahead and repost it though breh. :aicmon:
"He said this via text after I sent him your link:

“It's waaaaay more likely that "reactivation" is just based on false negatives. We know that's a problem with the existing tests. Definitely worth monitoring more, and I can’t guarantee you it’s not possible, but I don't consider reactivation a huge concern as of now.”

So take that for what it’s worth. I’m just a stranger online, and he’s one step farther removed from me. But I also hate posting anything that I wouldn’t stand behind if I wasn’t anonymous. This guy is the smartest friend I’ve ever had, and the only thing he’s been wrong about so far (and thankfully) is he thought we’d have a lot more deaths in America by now."

Not saying these numbers are fake but how accurate are all these numbers?

What is the margin of error?

How accurate? I'm terms of what they are reporting, as long as the hospitals can do basic mathematics then it should be pretty accurate. . . The only thing which is an unknown is the home deaths, so in that respect, numbers reported are under.

A “degree”. November.

Anyone thinking we should be “back to normal” at the end of this month should be committed.

Trump and some people are again playing/being stupid. You don't need a crystal ball to see what's likely to happen. Just look at countries that are ahead of us in the timeline.

Only way to have any type of progress is through mass testing and then antibody testing. But we're coming up on mid April and we still don't have enough regular 2 hour tests, so then you can forget about antibody testing and ability to return to any type of normalcy any time soon.

Trump doesnt even have authority to reopen the country. He didnt even issue a national lockdown to shut it down in the first place so what the fukk is he talking about?

Can he even withhold funding from states that dont lift quarantines?

He can't/won't be able to open blue states like CA and NY, but fukks like DeSantis will do whatever he tells them to do.
