UPDATE: It seems that SARS Cov II might bind to other receptors than just the previously thought ACE2.
"COVID-19, the novel coronavirus disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 and outbroken at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, China,1 becomes a worldwide pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 belongs to the betacoronavirus genus and has 79.5% identity to SARS-CoV. SARS-CoV-2 uses angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) as its host entry receptor.2 The clinical manifestations of COVID-19 include pneumonia, diarrhea, dyspnea, and multiple organ failure. Interestingly, lymphocytopenia, as a diagnostic indicator, is common in COVID-19 patients. Xiong et al. found upregulation of apoptosis, autophagy, and p53 pathways in PBMC of COVID-19 patients.3 Some studies reported that lymphocytopenia might be related to mortality, especially in patients with low levels of CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T lymphocytes.4,5 Lymphocytopenia was also found in the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) cases. 1. Covid19 attacking the immune system - early discussion of similarity to HIV (Feb) - NOTE: this is not saying the Cov19 virus has spliced HIV sequences!
2. Covid19 attacking other organs - liver, heart
3. Covid19 attacking blood cells - discussions suggesting it is a blood rather than a respiratory disease.
4. Covid19 being worse for the immune depressed
5. Why HIV antivirals have been effective treatments
6. Why Anti-malaria drugs are effective treatments
New studies suggest that other protein binding (CD147) binding takes place which allows for Covid to attack T-cells.
What does this all mean?
It is a possible explanation as to why the effects of Covid19 are so varied and why it spreads so quickly.
Hopefully there will be more discussions about this in the coming days.

I’m from Brooklyn a place where stars are born.
The thing is blue states will stay closed while republican governors will likely follow Trump’s word and re open and that includes Florida and Texas. As long domestic travel isn’t limited people from locked down areas will yearn to places that aren’t open. Best believe you will see stupid folk from the Northeast travel to Florida or Texas for memorial weekend. This will so backfire unless we have mass aggressive testing and plasma treatment.
This is what I was implying but perhaps I didn't word it clearly enough. I don't think this just magically appeared and started spreading in humans. I think there was an accident at that lab and it got out.

I’m open to it, but there’s no evidence for it.I'm not one for conspiracy theories but something like this emerging out of China on this scale is a little fishy. Maybe it's just an extreme coincidence but until we have concrete evidence of how this started, which I doubt we will get from China, I don't think this line of thinking is outrageous.

He said most labs that study viruses have the capabilities to engineer viruses that are far more deadly and far more effective (as well as specific) in terms of who they target. There's also no precedent at all for a country intentionally sending out a virus, that kills tens of thousands of their own people, cripples their economy, to shift the attention of the entire world upon them, in the midst of a trade deal, and global economic fallout. It sounds like the plot of a 90's era James Bond movie. It's purely psychological people want to blame someone, because it makes the threat less scary. The thought of some cabal of evil (Chinese?) people is comforting, as opposed to the total randomness and banality of a pandemic that brought the world to it's knees in a few months. Throughout history, this is how communities, countries, populations were demonized, and victimized. It's dangerous, and foolish.
