And us Filipinos are weird with funerary customs.

Bodies on display in the home for nine days in tropical humidity and heat with nothing but fans on :damn:
That's not weird, it's ancestral veneration.
Shyt, we just dump our dead off at the church and follow the motorcade to the cemetery before putting them in the dirt.
People might have more respect for life, if they had to sit with their dead in the comfort of their own homes.

Burial plots are not eternal . In Switzerland, you can keep your burial plot for up to 15 years.
Thats so weird and silly. In America they more or less are.

Graveyards typically have an endowment that pays for upkeep indefinitely. When you pay to be burried, you are typically just contributing to the endowment with a one time fee that carries you from now , until the end of the world. Your contribution doesn't need to be that high because dozens or hundreds of buried people are crowdfunding landscaping and owner fees.

Even if the cemetery owner goes bankrupt, the local municipality holds the property and replaces the endowment Because it's an obvious public benefit.

Ain't the remains exhumed and burned after a few decades? Otherwise , we would run out of cementaries .

imagine all the people that been buried here in the U.S , once burials became a thing.

Plus I imagine gravesites get bought and turned into something else eventually , maybe a house get's built on top of it.

My auntie and uncle got cremated sorta recently. Because everyone is opting for cremation, mortuaries are inverting pricing because of supply and demand. Cremation was $1500 more than a burial where I am. Damn capitalism.
