I don't even do that anymore.

Also, "living like a pauper" is all relative. I go on several trips a year, contribute towards my retirement, paid off half my loans in two years and have around $30k in the bank. What I mean is that I live pretty fukking middle class for someone with no kids of a wife who would be living like a king anywhere else not named LA or San Francisco.

I could be owning a substantial amount of property elsewhere, whereas in New York City, you truly get what you pay for. More affordable areas will be further away from Manhattan and that just adds to commuting time. When you work as many hours in a high stress job as I do, you place a premium on sleep. Elsewhere in the country, people don't have to make this kind of a choice.

You make 200k a year and you only have 30k in the bank. :dwillhuh: And im assuming youve been making a comparable salary for at least a few years now? You gotta make better financial decisions guy.

I feel you. I have friends who work in IBD and the hours are brutal. Maybe 5-6 hours of sleep a night, right? My friends live near NYU. But I remember you from before breh. You had an OD problem with hookers. That's probably where most your money going, let's be real here :comeon: Post taxes on 200k should be 120k. Even with a luxury 1 bedroom apartment + bills that should run you maybe 5k, so 60k a year. Unless you owe a mortgage's worth of student loans, you should be putting away like 60 racks a year...and that's with spending OD on rent. You could live with roommates or in studios and save a ton. Stop with the hookers :comeon:

Most of it went to principle on loans, otherwise I'd be near 80-90k in the bank.

If you make 40k a year and are single with no kids, and are willing to have a roommate you will have no problem living in the city IF you are responsible about spending money

I pay about $1500 a month in Queens split with the Woman about 30 min away from Midtown and 1 hour away downtown or BK. Not moving anytime soon.

$2k is about the average for 1 BR in a moderately popular area, you can pay less but with a longer commute. We're trying to take advantage of the local real estate slow down. There are microtrends happening the realtor won't tell you about
You living in a building orrr? I'm confused where the affordable spots are

The problem is that nikkas have different standards on what is affordable. $1100 a month for someone from cheap ass Louisiana for example would blasphemy compared to a born and raised NYer that deals with that price at MINIMUM.

Not to mention there are more affordable areas in the outer boroughs, it's not all about Manhattan.

AND there's a much better job market, public transportation, higher pay, much more to do, and plenty of :shaq: women around.
