C+C music factory wasn't Hip Hop they were House/Dance with a hype man dude going "yes yes y'all" every now and then. They were also a one hit wonder. Snow is not Hip Hop and was a one hit wonder. Tag team were one hit wonders. Drake doesn't sound a thing like Outkast, Digable Planets, get real. There was an audience for that no question but Drake is as far from conscious/"Afrocentric" as he is from 90's Gangsta. Drake could definitely do New Jack Swing like Wreckx N Effect but the genre died a horrible sudden death by about 92 so Drake would have about 3 years tops to "run" anything in that lane.
If you're suggesting Drake could be a one hit wonder like almost everyone you mentioned I won't question you I agree but dude wouldn't come close to "running" the genre. He'd be AT MOST as successful as those Tootsie Roll cats

hell no, and i don't even think drake is bad at all. rap music is just more tolerant of a soft dude like drake now than it was in the 90's. there's room for an artist like him now.

Drake would have been fine in the early 90s and late 90s. Mid 90s he could have existed, but he might have been the Bush Babees status. The mid 90s were grimey at the top. The world was just different and the rap at that time was a result of it. The world right now, no matter what conservative politicians or China tries to tell you is a much more peaceful place. Again, the rap reflects that. That was just a desperate era and the competition was reflective of that. I think a guy like Kendrick would have understood that. Beside, some Canadian like Choclair or Kardinal Offishal would have pushed him off the stage and he would have never resurfaced.
90s main stream was about the struggle, gettin out the hood or talkin about welfare..or fukkin bytches n disrespectin hoes as we should as men.. bruh we had top charting songs talkin bout the 1st of the fukkin month!! or I get around!! fukk a song like hit em up actually was playin on MTV n shyt
