This question is dumb because obviously MJ would be moving different in accordance with the era. And the marketing around him would have been different as well. Kobe (Pre-rape trial) and Lebron are the closest blueprints to probably what MJ’s marketing/branding campaigns would have been like, and although they were marketed as rather wholesome, they weren’t made out to be Jesus figures. And the reason he was “cracking” was because his fukking Father was MURDERED in cold blood. If any of ya’ll ever had a close relationship with your pop’s that shyt is absolutely heart wrenching. Your father is your first superhero.

God bless the families of Kobe, Bron, Giannis, and any other superstar you can name but if any of them would have had one of their close PARENTS MURDERED whilst attempting to threepeat you would’ve seen a side of them you never imagined i’d bet.

Unless it’s something really extreme, the biggest thing people care about is winning. It cures a lot of criticism. Lebron and Kobe were/are divisive players but each of them winning back-to-back titles during the early 10s quieted a lot of the criticism.

Jordan had a squeaky clean image for the first few years, then things changed during the 91-92 season, his 8th season. The Jordan Rules book came out which talked about how he was with teammates, and then it was discovered he was golfing for $$ with drug dealers when he skipped the White House event to “be with family”. There was one press conference when he was all sad because of the media criticism and Magic Johnson was there on some “Leave Michael Alone” shyt. People were knocking Mike saying “Magic Johnson is dying and Michael is acting like he has it rough”

In this era, I doubt MJ’s squeaky clean image would last until that long, but he would still be amazing on the court, and when he started winning multiple titles, narratives would change. His haters/detractors would be more known since it’s just the way it is in this era, but it’s not like he would not be able to “survive” this era. He would still be loved by many many people worldwide for being a great player.
