Celtics were built to beat the Lakers. They had 3 great defensive bigs in Kevin Garnett, Kendrick Perkins, and Rasheed Wallace. Those guys were able to neutralise Gasol, Odom, and Bynum. And then they had 3 great perimeter defenders to guard Kobe in Tony Allen, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce.

2008-10 Celtics were a tougher matchup for the Lakers than the 2017 Warriors.

You're really trying to compare a team with Shawn Marion as their leading scorer, to the Warriors who have 3 guys that can get 30, with one of them being a historically elite isolation scorer.

This narrative is used WAY too much when it comes to Kobe. Kobe is a 45% career shooter. He needed 19 shots to get 25 per game, Bron (50% shooter) needed 19 shots to get 27 per game. The Lakers biggest problem after 2010 was that they didn't adapt to the heavy PnR/3 point shooting/high pace/defensively versatile teams of today.

Curry/Durant/Klay are a huge problem for the Lakers on the perimeter. More than Gasol/Odom/Bynum would be for the Warriors.
