Didn't know you could do such a thing :dead:

BOSTON (AP) — A couple from Hong Kong has sued a U.S.-based college admissions consultant for failing to get their two sons into an Ivy League university as he had allegedly promised.

Gerald and Lily Chow say in their suit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston that they gave Mark Zimny more than $2 million to get their sons into an elite American university, preferably Harvard.

Zimny is a former Harvard professor who ran the education consultancy group IvyAdmit Consulting LLC.

The Boston Globe (Quest for admission to Harvard ends in $2 million tangle - News - Boston.com ) reports that the Chows say they gave $2.2 million to Zimny, who said he had contacts at Harvard and would funnel donations from the Chows to elite colleges. They charge Zimny with fraud and breach of contract. They want their money back.

Zimny denied the allegations in court papers.

Morale of the story. You can't always pay your way into prestige. :pachaha:

There's a lot of money in admissions consulting for those elite schools.

I know people who are trying to get nto HBS who are dropping 1K on resume critiques.

It's really serious business.

my parents probably paid a few hundred bucks for the "consultant" that helped me put my college application together and i got into an ivy. sounds like i made the better investment :manny:.

Did your credentials and background justified your school's acceptance/offer? :dwillhuh:

i think it was justified w/out his help, he just made sure i expressed my credentials and qualifications in the most clear and efficient way possible. after all that's their specialty, college apps.

I did something like that as well, minus the whole ivy thing. Definitely worth the investment.

They did an initial interview, etc. then did my essays and applications for me.

I wonder what these kids' qualifications actually look like. I think college coaching or application consulting for a fee is one thing, but funneling millions in donations to colleges is another.

I had zero clue about them either, and my dad, who only went to community college had no idea what he was doing either, so he wanted to help me out as much as possible.

EDIT: And yes, you're on w/ the essay part, their writing from what they gathered from me was :wow:
