I am going to depart from here with a personal feeling.

When your white, you have a lot less hate going for achievement. Not hate in the sense of you are trying to be smart :childplease:, but hate like you do not fit in with us and stuff like that. Little things that really become big things. That's why the smart Blacks generally don't talk about it if they want to be with the in crowd. With Whites, you can still get the hottie and trying to go to an Ivy as well. As a Black dude, you better be able to slam dunk, look like Trey Songz, or you going to be out of the loop.

It just seems like a lot less was expected of you as a Black male while in my father country, a lot is expected of you from birth as any male or female. This country has serious issue with Black folk and I am not just talking about Black folk themselves. Teachers (esp White ones), television, radio, etc. Just by reading your experiences, I knew you weren't Black off top. I think because it's so hard for a Black Male regardless of college status or not.

This doesn't have anything to do with your accomplishments ocmfII, just saying I didn't know too many brothers who did what you did with any type of backlash in HS while I seen whites do it and still be cool and not excluded. With Black women, it's more based on looks than grades as with women in general. Besides the point, :salute: and what field are you in now?

clearly i can't speak on the different stigmas associated w achievements from a black perspective. but i think in both cases (black and white) a lot of it ties back proper parental guidance, hence mowgl's questions.

but thank you, and i currently work in finance.

If it's not too much trouble, do you have the name of the consultant or firm? A link to their website? I don't know where to search and the possibility of being scammed has me shookd:huhldup:

i don't remember the guy's name off hand. keep in mind i was applying to college in '97 so this is going back 15 years now. i will ask my parents if they remember his name or company though.

The problem is brothers care too much about what other people think and in so many cases the family structure is poor or education is not stressed enough for them to have that feeling of having to live up to their parents standards, because in many cases, the standard is to make below par or be average. Its so demonic, friend.

Everyone cares too much what others think. Of course you change with age but it's common that a 16 year old cares what other 16 year olds are into. I might have been my own person and had status in HS but I cared how I dress, talked, and walked as much as the next person.

You must be in middle management or an exec with your company by now.

To the point where you decide to hurt your future, friend. Thats demonic pressure. This is why hes stressing the importance of family. Notice how he had "family" dinner, when he got home. Family dinner is like a daily roundtable session where you review the days events providing guidance, advice and criticism. When done correctly, parenting trumps demonic losers who seek to bring friends to subtarranean levels, friend.

Very true. To add to that, I didn't realize I set up a good path for my sisters. I was extremely big on morals. Not saying I didn't cruse but I didn't do much like drink, smoke, sex and stuff like that in HS. When my sisters came up, they just did that, keep their grades really high and results happen. I think the oldest sibling plays a big role in terms of guidance.

I feel insight here. How did your parents keep you out of the influence of demonic friends. Mainly demonic kids with bad parents who bring down individuals with their bad influences. Im talking elementary-middle school years. These seem to be crucial years where kids end up having their brain chemistry rewired towards loserdom.

read the social animal. it shows how the different classes raise their kids. a lot of upper class parents just talk to their kids more, treat them like adults, and keep them busy with a lot of activities after school.

heres a page from it.

I'd say I was raised in the same fashion at OCMF. I just think that as black people we have to surround our kids with other black kids who parents are thinking the same way. It's possible. Especially today with special schools/programs that different counties offer.

What's the name of this book?

It's been so long, I don't know if they're even around anymore. This was back in '96.
