Very, very interesting study posted in Nature this week! giving more credence to this possible explanation as to why some people have a tough go with the virus and others have a mild case or are asymptomatic. BUT the positive immune response is not tied to antibodies but rather T-Cell response!

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2550-z_reference.pdf

SARS-CoV-2-specific T cell immunity in cases of COVID-19 and SARS, and uninfected controls

Essentially, SARS-1, and Sars-Cov-2 have identical NSP7 and 13 proteins which can be found in the betacoronavirus that cause milder respiratory infections/common colds (OC43 and HKU1) or more likely other presently unknown coronaviruses that cause similar mild infections.

During an immune response to Sars-Cov-2, a person who had been exposed to one of the endemic or to a scientifically unknown betacoronavirus, had previously “informed” T-cells which would recognise and target these familiar proteins and effectively mount a prompt and measured defense. T-cells remember this portion of the virus from its sister virus that you were exposed to and allows the adaptive immune system to effectively target it.

As opposed to antibodies, T-cell memory would be the key to a long lasting/strong immune response and in this theory a prior exposure to these specific betacoronaviruses might be the reason some people have an “immunity” of sorts.

On the other hand when the cytotoxic T-cells don’t recognise the pathogen off the bat, they overcompensate and go ham on your system, causing a cytokine storm while failing to effectively eliminate the virus

Makes a lot of sense.

In South Texas' Hidalgo County, some patients have to wait on a stretcher for 10 hours before being examined due to lack of resources, said Dr. Ivan Melendez, the public health authority.

"We are in dire need, and we are exhausted," he said. "We had four ICU patients. Now we have 211. We had three people on ventilators. Now we have 135."

The way things are in London/UK it appears this virus has just disappeared :dwillhuh:

They don't even report the deaths anymore on news sites over here. Literally no concerns, fans gonna be hack instadiums in Autumn.

I don't even know what to think anymore

Jesus christ for all COVID-19 deniers. She addresses all the "but they're calling everything COVID-19" talk.

It's like its been said, COVID-19 is like AIDS. You may not technically die from COVID-19 but COVID-19 leads to the condition that kills you.

Everyone with a function brain been understood what this fine black queen saying...

I've said this repeatedly during this pandemic, the only cure for stupid is death and 40% of this country is borderline retarded...Politicizing wearing a mask during a pandemic is cancerous stupidity...

Staggeringly low intelligence is why our numbers are what they are and that is the undeniable reality of Murikkka...I'm thankful for COVID, its been a blessing in my eyes...We needed this to smarten up but a whole lot more stupid is going to need to die to achieve that...Call me heartless, I don't care, I have no sympathy for morons whose stupidity isn't just jeopardizing they own life, but also mine and my families...

My gf’s grandma got corona virus. She’s 84 and having a lot of fever and difficulty to breathe.

Anyone know if fever is a good sign and means the body is fighting it off?

She passed away today. RIP

One thing with this virus is that its so unexpected that a lot of us don’t believe it until its too late. Eg when China was going through it, everybody was like oh shyt this is bad, but still most of us weren’t like lets shut down the entire country asap.

When things get worse, lockdowns happen and the virus gets under control. But I think whats important for all of us to remember is we can’t let our guard done even if the situation becomes very good and doctors get a handle on managing/curing it (which appears to be headed in the direction).

Stay safe, dont take any chances, just wait it out - a few more months to a year and life will eventually be normal. It doesn’t hit us until its too close to home, and either we get infected or somebody we love does —- don’t let your guard down!!

And it doesn’t matter if the situation overall is improving, if there’s only one death in the US but its you then well :yeshrug:

Crazy I rarely every agree with these kinds of call outs of stupidity but it shows. Here in DC there was a problem with the mask mandate for like 1 week after that no problems. White and black people have been cool with it and wear mask inside.

:whoa:

A lot of these deaths are from stupid muthafukkas acting like it's a hoax and then passing it to their innocent family members who are staying home. Then those family members end up dying.

:snoop:

Y'all hear about that story about that kid who went to a friend's party, ended up giving his parents Corona and both parents died.

Its a catch 22. Lot of us need to go out for work, but we are putting our parents and relatives at risk. I’m blessed that I have parents locked up in their own place, but feel for lot of others...
I go see my parents like 1 time a month and stay for less than an hour with a mask. I try not to touch anything and sit in the same seat they don't really use. Both are retired and don't have to be out in the streets anymore.

I'm tired of all these Republicans and Trump supporters jeopardizing us all just cause they wanna follow a fool that is incapable of admitting fault. I've never heard of Trump ever admitting he was wrong about anything and he was dead wrong on COVID-19.

He's the dad on the family vacation that gets lost and won't admit it or ask for directions. He'll just keep driving the wrong way forever and try to act like he's going the right way.
