NYC trying to jump in the variant game. I’m guessing these will be popping up regularly, but hopefully can be handled to some degree now with the ability to remix the vaccines in the works

The vaccine works against all variants

Wrong. To only a certain extent. Been averaging around 50% effective vs South African and Brazilian I believe. This is the reason they are going back to the drawing board and trying to develop booster doses to fight these variants that have the ability to evade the effects of the regular vaccine

:mjcry: I was hoping my job would be able to leverage getting vaccinated sooner than later bc I didn't want that Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Now I'm probably going to end up getting that one :wow:

On another note, my bro in law got diagnosed. He had the first dose of vaccine, so his symptoms have only been loss of taste and stuffy nose so far. Hope it stays there for him

Went and got my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine today at a mass testing site in Atlanta. Brehs, to see all the people in there, a lot elderly, line up to get a shot that could save their life, that shyt is humbling.

I know for a lot of folks this pandemic is just numbers but when you see faces of people out here and you realize they just want to wake up another day......:mjcry:

Ethical question:

In NYC the only option for me to get a vaccine is under the pre-existing condition exception.

the condition being obesity. Anyone with a BMI of 30 and up qualify as obese and can get the vaccine.

my BMI is 30.1 :ohhh::mjlol:

should I sign up? I have no health issues, still young, etc :patrice:

I feel bad taking a vaccine when plenty of others need it more
Do it. If you qualify it's for you

I think he is talking about the sinovac vaccine.

Anyway there are loads of small studies and loads of different numbers out there.

The fact that Pfizer, AZ and Moderna are ALL making new vaccines says what the reality is and how they are preparing for it.

So small and unreliable

"The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine offers as little as 10% protection against the Covid variant first seen in South Africa, researchers have suggested."
Oxford Covid vaccine has 10% efficacy against South African variant, study suggests
Scary 22% vaccine efficacy in South Africa comes with heaps of caveats

or

Sinovac

"The panel says it has received data from Sinovac showing the two-dose vaccine has an efficacy rate of just over 62% when administered 28 days apart — a number far better than the 50% efficacy rate reported from late-stage trials conducted in Brazil, the very threshold recommended by the World Health Organization. "

We have the situation in Manaus which raises concerns.

Narrow targeting vaccines are more likely to be more prone to viral escape.
