Do people saying "He's never had the roster talent to reach the finals" really think the Grizzlies have ever had a more stacked roster than the Clippers at any point in the past 5+ years?? Same for the Jazz?? Don't give me the injuries excuse, Utah and Memphis have been just as snakebitten throughout the years. How about the Rockets, do people really think James Harden and Dwight Howard were on a better team than Pauls in 2015? Hell I'm not sure they're more stacked now in 2017 if you look at the rosters purely on paper.
I'll always have love for CP3 but this is damning shyt if you're trying to build an all time legacy and reputation. And there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that that's exactly what he's trying so hard to do. Some of it is horrible luck but when push comes to shove desperately few teams in any professional sport have everything go their way all the time. After a certain point luck doesn't work as an excuse anymore, and it isn't a strong defense of skill/character/talent to begin with. Great players make great things happen even if their luck or their team/organizations might not be so great. Chris Paul has yet to make that happen on the biggest stage still, and he's almost out of time to make it happen.
Look at those teams you named though.
Grizzlies only made the Conference Finals once, the year they played the Clippers with Blake hurt and the Thunder with Westbrook hurt, then got swept by the Spurs.
Jazz ain't never made the Conference Finals in the last 5+ years, and won't this year either.
Rockets only made the Conference Finals once, when CP3 played with a pulled hammy the whole series, Blake absolutely folded, and the Rocket bench had that crazy, mind-boggling comeback. If it were up to Harden and Howard, they would have been out in 5 games.
If you're not Golden State/San Antonio/OKC, it's taken some major luck to make it to the WCF the last five years. CP3 ain't never had the fortuitous injury to the other team in the conference finals that propelled him there. He's never had the critical game where his bench stepped up and sealed it against a better team. If a few calls go the other way in 2014, or if CP3 is 100% in 2015, or if Blake doesn't get hurt in 2013, then they have a real chance of making it at least 1-2 times. But they just never had the dominoes fall their way.
