They're trying to teach AI to manipulate molecules.

...to the level where you can be in mniddle of nowhere and say "Alexa, materialize a cell phone please" and the AI will take the minerals from the ground and manipulate the molecules of those minerals into a phone,

In my Bane voice:
With this ability you dont think little programmable nanites can shave your head?

That's basically a Star Trek replicator. We're nowhere near close to that. :mjlol:

I try to be cautious with my predictions, but I'm 100% sure we won't see anything like what you're describing in our lifetime.

Wish there were more brehs in the trades. I used to be a HVAC technician and hated being the only black guy in the company. Went to Northwestern Tech out here and owed less than 10k for my schooling. If you know people you can skip all of that and have someone take you as an apprentice and teach you. My cousin out west is trying to get me to come to California and work with him. Says it’s mega money out there doing trades.

I’m a firefighter now in Detroit and even still in such a black city it’s predominantly white. Need more brehs as first responders as well. Trying to go LAFD but I know I might be the only breh agan :francis:

Management salaries should be less Non-Management salaries in all industries.

Compensation hierarchy should be flipped. Sale Associates do more than District Managers.

Currently; Ideas and solutions come from bottom-up, however compensation comes from the top-down. That’s why our economy is in shambles.

Not all money is good money. Quality is why our teachers told us to be white collar.

Nothing beats spending your entire workday watching netflix and bullshyting in your air-conditioned office or working from home. Those blue collar dudes dont get this.

Exactly - I like working from home 3-4 days a week in my draws :manny:

If a plumber is making slightly more than me working his ass off everyday and wearing out his knees, more power to him, but it's not for me. :manny:

I have absolutely no interest in being 30+ working a physical labor job regardless of the pay, I enjoy my lack of back/knee problems

Crazy how things have flipped. We use to look down at Barbers, Repairmen, Plumbers, Carpenters and other blue collar workers. I'm a 80s baby, a lot of shot for the pretty, clean suit and tie jobs. Luckily I got in the IT field when I did. But I have a older that has been cutting hair for 20+ years. And a cousin that's been a plumber and another that's been at a wood mill for 20+ years. All are balling. Been balling. I'm talking season tickets to the Saints. Nice homes and vehicles.

Another advantage I've learning from my barber and cousins. They're able to earn money on the side. Tax free money. I guess IT can do a little tech work outside of work, but you damn near have to be legit for people to trust you.

I’m a teacher, it feels like a blue collar job sometimes with all the shyt we have to deal with.

In the 80s and 90s my friend’s dad was able to have 5 kids and 2 houses in what was at the time the beginning of a sought after suburb in my city. He owned an auto repair shop.

At the end of the day I just hoped people pursed what they were into rather than outside influences telling them to to something else.

They are trying to AI OUT trade work, goodluck with that :mjlol:

Yea we really looking forward to a robot ankle deep in shyt water strolling through your living room to get more tools from down stairs.

If the purpose is equity and likelihood of long term financial success blue collar vocations have literally ALWAYS been a better value than IT and IT is how I get paid.

A man can go from the street to having a plumbing repair business with employees before a man on the street has even finished law school.

We were programmed that it was more prestigious to get a high skill office job working for someone else than it is to go work "outside" and have your own business. I wear business attire to work so I must be important. While at the same time you dont own anything related to that job other than your education.

You have to understand the true purpose of the education system (to the elites) is to create a labor force that is well suited for the tasks they want them for. STEM wasnt to give the kids a future, its to give the elites someone to do things they want them to. Its not designed for you to build financial solvency or to build something you can give your family. Its designed to make you want to give your time to the elites to help them build their goals.

How many K-12 school districts have budgeting and investing as a standard part of their curriculum?
Its not an accident something that critical is missing from public education

A lot of our women and kids don't understand or respect Blue Collar work either. They have no clue what a Process Control Tech \ Supervisors do or earn. No clue about electricians, welders or plumbers.. Immigrants and Cacs have built generations and communities from these trades.

So many of us go into massive debt for a degree that doesn't have real skills. Jobs that are first to go...

My cousin started working at a Wood Mill in like 1998. Started from the bottom, almost min wage. No he's a manager. Been making 100k a year. During Covid when wood price skyrocketed, the mill gave every employee 1k for year they've been with the company. He got like 25k. He's only like 46. He's in a mini mansion. We golf carts and all. Just saying this to say we look pass a lot of good careers chasing the pretty jobs and titles.

Barbers...supposedly making more than IT people.

BARBERS.

:rudy:

Yes. I’ll co-sign the OP.

I’m an IT professional [low 6-figures], My homie is a Barber; He’s make more than I do barring incentives. The incentive I have may out-weigh his income; i.e. TSP [401k] matching, Health Care, Paid Leave, etc.

I’m proud of him. He’s striving in his lane.

Successful people will be successful at whatever they're doing
I don't see why it needs to be made into some us vs them type of discussion. Does it really make sense to compare a successful plumber with multiple crews to a successful tech exec and see what their earnings were over a 20 yr span :why:

Trades have industry swings like everything else, in fact I'm hearing more and more trades people talk about the impact the slow real estate market is having on them combined with less ppl doing renovations or maintenance type repairs due to belt tightening in a weak economy

This person understands

Lay the game out in terms of pros & cons so people can make informed decisions.
