As someone who frequently stays in hotels.

One of the most common scam is them calling your hotel room claiming they are from corporate (insert hotel here). They lost your cc information and need you to tell them again or you will be billied again once their systems are back up.

They even offer incentives like, reward points, free room next visit, suite upgrades .

Next morning people in hallways talking about how they were scammed.

I don't know how its done now, but back when I was in the game, you could tell how much money was on the card but the type of card it was. And you could tell what time of card it was by the serial numbers on the strip.

You gotta understand, people aren't going to sell info with small balances. They want repeat business.

At least a drug dealer sells something / provides a service. They are filling a need in the market.
