It's unfortunate, this is when I chuckle at American history because it doesn't want to admit how instrumental Black people were to its construction and its success.

You see how white people always remember the whites who have died fighting in the civil war..

But get amnesia about the blacks who've died in the building of this country..

Crispus Attucks was an American stevedore of African and Native American descent, widely regarded as the first person killed in the Boston Massacre and thus the first American killed in the American Revolution

8 Things to Know About Crispus Attucks

for people that didn't know
Every British soldier involved faced the prospect of hanging, and John Adams—later America's second president—was tasked with defending them. During his defense, Adams claimed that the soldiers were acting in self-defense and called the protestors "a motley rabble of saucy boys, negroes and molattoes, Irish teagues, and outlandish jack tarrs. And why we should scruple to call such a set of people a mob, I can't conceive, unless the name is too respectable for them." Adams claimed that Attucks was the instigator. The argument worked: nobody was convicted of murder. (Two soldiers were, however, convicted of manslaughter.

In the Silver Lining
Fun Fact: The second POTUS John Adams defended the soldiers who participated in the Boston Massacre and got them off. He proclaimed the crowd provoked the soldiers because it was composed of "a motley rabble of saucy boys, negroes, and molattoes, Irish teagues and outlandish Jack Tarrs" :mjpls:

I'm going need 18th century urban dictionary for
  • "saucy boys"?
  • 'Irish teagues"'?
  • "Jack Tarrs"?

Can we discuss him during this 4th of July weekend? Whats your thoughts on his legacy?

I mean he was proclaimed to be the 1st person to die for this country for its independence. :manny:

He should have a holiday. If there's a pic of his face it should be on some currency. If he has descendants they should receive some sort of metal of honor from the gov.

And reparations should be paid.
