Eric dikkerson is right on. Lowering your upper body/helmet is instinctive. Who the fuk see's someone coming full speed and stands upright waiting for contact? You have to lower your upper body to absorb the hit. I mean, ok, you should never lead with your crown, but when you lower your shoulders, your heads coming with it. In about 5-10 yrs, it's gonna be pretty much flag football.

Yeah, it's gotta be at some point we as people have to take responsibility for our choices.

That's the problem with the fukking world, everyone wants the benefits but nobody wants the responsibility.

We all know football is a dangerous game, you know that shyt the day you pick up a ball in your backyard and get hit,

We're such a bytchmade society at this point where everyone is a victim and no one is an adult who made a choice.

It only looks that way because by comparison 10, 15, 20 years ago, society was so ultraviolent.

Complaining about the safety of the NFL is like wishing the WWE could put together a good ol' ECW barbed wire match for old times' sake. After a while only the die hard heads will outright crave it (and those fukks watch CZW and all that other shyt where they use weed whackers and piranhas and light tubes and shyt).

Now we're seeing the effects of that and seeing all these deaths that came from a sport that was unregulated and it puts everyone in a tough spot. Deep down we don't give a damn what happens to these players because this is the life they chose. In the past, society wasn't as sympathetic. Now, it's like "damn, he had kids. He had a wife. He was 30 with the brain of an 85 year old. That's fukked up. We need to do something about it before we're up to our neck in lawsuits."

Life changes. Unfortunately football as we know it will be a casualty of it.

Has nothing to do with sympathy. it's ALL about the law suits.

so basically a player having a wife and kids and getting older should make us more sympathetic ?

football us is a violent sport because it is based on contact. it's that simple.

ali is a goddamn mess because of the sport that he was in. yet boxing isnt changing much, the fundamentals of it aint changing.

people choose their own risks. all the lawsuits are only because of american propensity of stupid ass lawsuits.

there are quite more deaths in soccer than in many other sports, usually due to the heart failures, unable to endure the heavy anaeorobic exercise

yet I dont see those peoples families suing anyone.

pro sports comes with many risks. especially contact sports.

The sympathy is what gets the court of public opinion to agree with the owners to where the opposing outrage comes from a perceived minority.

Happened in wrestling. There's precedence. Chris Benoit kills his wife and kid. Tests showed his head was fukked up. Now I can't watch a match with a chair shot to the head anymore. Now if you bleed a lot they may stop the match to wipe it off. Why? Lawsuits sure, but also because the court of public opinion was so horrified by the news they wondered how the industry could continue in that manner. So the WWE made adjustments, just like the NFL is.

You think the public REALLY gives a damn about these players lives after the fact?

:rudy:

They're on to cheering for the next one whose head is about to be scrambled.

This is ALL about the law suits, not public opinion.

Of course not. It's all hypocrisy at the end of the day. Unfortunately, the NFL can't state the obvious and say "this is the life they chose" without taking a major hit on all fronts. Harder to get away with it now that people have developed some fugazi ass moment of clarity about the shyt they subject themselves and others to.

We agree here.

I LONG SAID they should get rid of the helmets if they want all of this to end.

I can't front my dude....I used my head as a weapon....and in doing so...it earned me a scholarship to one of the most prestigious universities in the country.

I can't lie and act like I wasnt' a dude using the crown of his helmet to catch a niqqa in his ear hole.....or damn near killing a niqqa watching a punt rolling on the ground and not seeing me curl around as I coiled like a snake upward into his chin :scheme: There is merit to it being a used as a weapon...but that was mostly as a blocker.

This is exactly how I got knocked into Bolivia returing a punt in high school one time......

Everybody on the sideline thought I was dead......

I got up, walked off the field, and got back in the game 5 minutes later.....

Probably shouldn't have, but ish was different then
