Great post, but I'm like 90% certain that "collage" style came from Madlib.

:patrice:

Alchemist most certainly put his spin on it. But the core mechanics of that style are straight off the beat konductor series.
I think so as well. He had an interview on Dead End Hip Hop and he told them he linked up with Madlib's brother Oh No when they started doing Gangrene, and sort of vibed off Oh No's sound a bit. Then right around the same time, Oh No and that A&R named Hip Hop also put him onto Madlib beats and albums like Madvillainy. And he said back in the 00's he was so focused on what he was doing that he didn't really branch out and listen to a lot of stuff outside of the Mobb camp or whatever he was working on, and between having the group with Oh No and getting put onto Madlib and DOOM that all of that had a huge influence on his sound ever since then.

This tape still getting a bit of spins, cut off certain songs but overall it's holding up.

Now we just waiting for that new Curren$y x Harry Fraud :feedme:

What'd you cut off just curious?

I deleted the songs with Styles P and Bronson, mostly due to me not really feeling those two not that much. I also find myself listening to less and less 500 Pounds of Gas as the spins go forward

Gutter Water was the first tape I heard with the Madlib type of collages, I really enjoyed that tape...got to re-listen

Off topic, but did you like the production on No Idols?

I did man. I liked it a lot when it first dropped. I don't listen to it a lot, but mostly just because of Domo Genesis. I thought Domo actually got a lot better since that project, so some later raps he did I like more, but on No Idols I wish it had been Earl over those beats or something. I think if you listen to Earl on Elimination Chamber or Gamebreaker, hearing him come on right after Domo just shows how much better a rapper he is.

There's a lot of fire on there. These are probably my favorites. Till The Angels Come and Gamebreaker (Like A Star) are both smooth as fukk. So is All Alone. fukk Everybody Else and Daily News are really dope. Elimination Chamber is a good cypher record. The joint with Smoke Dza was pretty cool but a little cheesy sounding. The Feeling sounded a little out of place. The intro joint is a little too "try hard to be epic" sounding for me. I thought the me and My bytch joint was boring besides the little synth chords that come in at the end.

I did at first, but I listened to it a few months ago and I didn't like it, save a few songs(Til The Angels Come, Gamebreaker, All Alone, fukk Everybody Else)

I really wasn't a Domo Genesis fan before that project, so maybe that's why I lost interest in it so fast. It's defintely my least favorite Alchemist produced project. Even saying that it's still doper than a lot of music dropping today

Oh, no question! I wasn't implying that Al was anywhere near being the first to use that style of collaging. And no one fukks with Madlib on collaging. It's in his blood, and it's also in his environment. Look at his record collection, look at his equipment. Madlib's mastering of the various Roland SP's, and all of the shyt he has pulled off on his body of work can't even be recreated.. he's on some stupid shyt. Alchemist didn't used to have that collaging so much in his early work - it was chop and place like train tracks. Nothing wrong with either method - a tight beat is a tight beat. I'll even say I prefer the tight mess that Madlib has been putting down for the last 20 years.

Went for a late night drive with this in the whip. I'm gliding along half vacant streets with a lot on my mind. All I got with me is this tape blasting and a light drizzle smudging up the reflection of the street lights on my windshield.

I legit felt like I was in a noir film.

:wow:

These Curren$y tapes are wormholes into iconic moments in cinema.
Glad I'm not the only Coli Member who felt Carlton Heist noir aspect:myman:

...Thief/Dry Run:stylin: running theme makes the cypher complete:banderas:

The beauty of ALC/Lib production, is you can actually hear their Hip-Hop passion crafted:ahh:
