If he was bad, he couldn’t play well now. That’s coaching and minute management. That’s Kerr. They have sat him down not because he can’t play, it’s because of the contract issues. Now he comes into the game with limited minutes and still making plays in big games. He was like 10/13 in the first two games with trash minutes, that’s coaching that keeps him from being impactful. He will make mistakes because he has no rhythm. Kerr throws a wet towel on the kid. Averaging 15pts on 22,23min a game and I’m only playing half the games, half the season means this is on Kerr and it ain’t basketball. It’s business for turning down that contract.
Playing good/bad isn't linear.
Kuminga's been bad because he tried to play above his own level, despite not having the skillset to do so. He came back from injury this season and was a ball-stopper, wouldn't even make the rudimentary pass and was reluctant to do all the things that are required of a role player. Yes, part of that is because he's trying to play for his next contract, but you can't expect a team who's contending to just keep giving him minutes when he's not on their timeline and isn't helping them win.
They're not in a position to just let young players keep playing through mistakes.
Moody earned minutes this season because he was playing well, but then the postseason came around and he's shytting the bed. Coaching has NOT stopped Moody from being impactful. He's been given all the opportunities, but ultimately couldn't do anything with them when it mattered most.
And while Kuminga is talented, he generates offense through a lot of volatile play which isn't reliable. He resorts to ISO despite not having much of a handle, has shakey jumpshot mechanics, can't hit FT and has no go-to moves. He gets by on athleticism. That isn't a recipe for success, and GS isn't in any position to just let him figure it out (whenever the hell that might be).
