i thought they showed the grandmother jump up at the last second with the plastic bag tied over head gasping for air, trying to get it off.
so maybe they did not show that she saved the littler girl and then Chucky had to move on to Andy

Yeah I didn't get that part either and they didn't bother explaining it. Maybe he couldn't transfer into a female body?

According to the director Don Mancini, he said at a Q&A that part was put in there so they can leave it open to do sequels if the movie does well. And the "6 Months Later" part was added in there so IF they do the sequels it will cover everything that happened in those 6 months leading up to Chucky getting delivered to Andy..makes sense
