Dilla never needed a ghost producer

Dude wasn't even the best outta the Hitmen either

Nashiem Myrick & Carlos Broady >>>>

Los and Nashiem were nice.

Chucky Thompson's work on Mary's My Life Album >>>>>>>>

But yeah, why bring up Dilla's name? Just name your shyt and keep it moving and people will respect it.

He didn't diss Dilla. He just said he couldn't see his catalog and said no disrespect and said he loved J. Dilla. I don't understand why people are up jn arms like he said something disrespectful. Nothing he said required a hypothetical response from Dilla if he were alive. In fact, he was more so speaking to backpackers/purists who were dismissive of his catalog and compared him to Dilla.

And to D. Dot's point, a lot of people don't understand that he was integral in putting Kanye and 50 on. "How To Rob" was a big deal. That was a D. Dot joint featuring 50. He helped Kanye develop his sound. Wasn't no ghost production and the records D. Dot got credit for, but Kanye actually did was due to label/industry politics not D. Dot stealing credits. Even on D Dot's album, Kanye got credited with the joints he did.

Also of note, the term "ghost production" in Hip Hop exists because Kanye pushed the narrative that he ghost produced for D. Dot, when that's not true. There was a difference in Kanye's and D. Dot's styles even then.

D Dot said Dilla’s catalog cant see his. Not that he is a better producer than Dilla

Dilla is a legendary producer. He gives old samples a whole new persona

That being said being a dilla fan is moreso a right of passage of being a cultured hip hop head than it is being an actual fan of his music. It’s corny. Those same people never properly acknowledge Dilla’s father, Pete Rock

Breh, I feel you…BUT the sample clearances alone on the tracks you mentioned are enormous
you utilize the advantage you are presented at your disposal. If someone gave you a Ferrari, you ain't gonna use it to pick up heaux? :hubie:

real spit though, Bad Boy had the budget to do whatever at the time and he took advantage. I also think the reason he brought Dilla into this is because he got tired of back packers criticizing him and the Hitmen's sound for years that he made an example out of him since he (allegedly) is the Backpacker's "God" in a sense also the simple fact that when Dilla produced "Vivrant thang" that was straight out of Bad Boy's playbook and wants to point out the hypocrisy within the back pack culture. I ain't got nothing against Dilla myself and he's one of my fave producer but i get where he's coming from without looking at it on a hating standpoint.

Most of us love Pete and Dilla :yeshrug: Can’t speak for younger cats or white boys which is what you seem to be talking about but Dilla been the man since I discovered him when he got with Q Tip. D Dot shouldn’t even be talking about Dilla, who’s out here randomly comparing those two?
