NEW YORK — David Stern might be responsible for the fashionable basketball players in the NBA — well, at least for Dwyane Wade.

The Miami Heat star says while he always was a fan of fine dressing, it wasn't until the former commissioner of the league instituted a dress code that he started taking more interest in what he would wear off the court.

"It was like, 'OK, now we got to really dress up and we can't just throw on a sweat suit,'" he said. "Then it became a competition amongst guys and now you really got into it more and you started to really understand the clothes you put on your body, the materials you're starting to wear, so then you become even more of a fan of it."

Now Wade is considered among the more fashion-forward stars in a league where players dress to impress. Wade admits there's some competition among the league — and sometimes they take it over the top in what they wear in a postgame press conference.

"Obviously sometimes we push the envelope, and I think it's because we're athletes," he said in an interview Tuesday. "We're not looked at as guys who should wear certain things. Being flamboyant is being OK."

Wade unveiled his latest over-the-top fashion statement this week — his new branded watch from Hublot. The Classic Fusion Dwyane Wade is black polished ceramic with 18-karat gold screws on the bezel and sapphires in the dial; it retails for $18,400.

It's the second watch Wade has created with Hublot since becoming a brand ambassador for the Swiss watchmaker in 2011: "I always admired what I thought it stood for, the elegance of it."

Wade turned to the word elegance again when asked about the fashion sense of his new bride, actress Gabrielle Union.

"My lady has her style and I love her elegance that she brings to it," he said. "And I think I bring a little spice to it. Maybe that's one of the perks of dating someone nine years younger, bring a little hipster to it!"

Wade, 32, and the 41-year-old "Being Mary Jane" star just returned from their two-week honeymoon in the Maldives, Tanzania and the Seychelles.

I was all for the sh!t when Stern implemented and enforced but mofos in the Coli (sohh coli days) were all up in arms about it. If it wasnt for Stern the sidelines would be filled with dudes with their belt buckles down to their knees and sh!t.

So instead of

we have have

Don't get me wrong i understood the outrage by some in the black community at the time by saying the Stern was imposing and not allowing people to express themselves. And they were right. But at the same time let's not deny that if he didn't some players would keep pushing the limits until we had dudes with their pants sagging down to their knees on a damn NBA sideline.

Ive even kicked my nephews out my car and house until they pulled up their pants.

You left me on the bad part of town :mjcry:
That little punk was trying to be slick too. I picked them up and they got in the care and i see his belt midway down his thighs

Me - Didier and Eric. I need both of you to pull your pants up
Didier pulls his pants up. Eric thinking i wasnt looking just acts like he does but really doesnt and jumps in the back seat.
I get out the car, open his door and give him the :stopitslime: look.
Eric: WHat?
Me - You either pull your pants up or you can stay and i'll have your dad or grandpa come get you with you pants sagging like this
Eric - oh ok :guilty:

Count me in the group that was always more concerned about the product on the floor than what guys were wearing to the game or while sitting on the sidelines.
I hear you. But over time i've come to understand and accept that a lot is about perception in life.

Only thing Stern gave a fukk about was his money. And if in order to sell his product (basketball) to his core audience (middle aged whites) he has to get his business partners who also care about their money (the players) to meet him half way on the presentation of the league with something as minor as a damn dress code then that's what he will do. It happens everywhere in every industry, B. If you dont think presentation matters, try this. Open a high end restaurant in a bad part of town and have your waiters dress up like AI in this pic while having most of your meals costing over $80 for a basic dinner for 2. You could have God himself cooking in that kitchen cooking the best meal ever donned on human kind. Still wouldnt be profitable. Prejudice will happen in this world. It's part of the environment and sometimes you will have to navigate around it.

I'll go even further about perception: WOuld you wife a woman who is a prostitute or largely perceived as one?

The Iverson look (in the picture in this thread he looks like he could fit another 2 whole Allen Iverson's in that shirt :mjlol:) tends to project the wrong image (usually unfairly), but having dudes dress in salmon Capri pants/mariachi type button up shirts with cactus looking amoebas on it/:russ: and rondo dressing like Elton John at best or like their closet threw up on them ain't a good look either. Some of these guys (Westbrook especially) are rivaling :mjpls: in terms of bad fashion sense. Guys are looking like Craig sager is their fashion consultant :snoop:

don't these people know they're just emulating gay prison culture? I'm way past being a kid and caring about what's hot, but damn - I really don't think I'd ever feel comfortable literally showing my ass to the world..
