After the first 3 tracks I was in and out of paying attention to this. Last thing I remember is hearing Nicki Minaj verse, after that this shyt blinded together into a sound soup and next thing I know I was on the last track with no idea of what came in between.

He could have made a personal project like Durk did

He probably didn't live that life like Durk and not much to say

:jbhmm:

So he started being a over the top goon after he graduated high school? He seemed like a very well mannered young man before he started rapping.

Hahahaha...this is obligatory because I haven't spoken on dude in awhile and apparently some of you guys aren't aware...

Dude is not from nowhere in Charlotte that's active, I'm gonna Google link yall where dude grew up:

Google Maps

This is Harris-Houston in North Charlotte, and it ain't just about how it looks physically, because there are hoods around America that aren't falling apart that are dangerous. Harris-Houston is not a wild area, and it's barely even in Charlotte at all (it's way up north, like the last hood in Charlotte before you get to Concord)...

So this is one point, he didn't grow up in an area shyt gets crazy....

Two, dude is a high school graduate and went to college. There are cats in high school really running the streets, and they typically don't graduate. He wasn't one of them, and if you listen to his Vlad interview 7-8 months ago, you can always trip guys up when you ask them "when did you start running the streets", and listen to their response...

I dont think he graduated from college, and some cats fukk around in college but they always the one foot in/one foot out type nikkas...

People who know him say he always wanted to be a rapper, like Pusha T too. I know he didn't start putting shyt on record til like '14 or '15, but people say he was always rapping. You also gotta listen for nuggets in nikkas music, cats will tell you on the same album that a year ago they couldn't keep food in they place, and on the same record tell you they always had racks lmao...

I've said it before: dude and his brothers fukked around with some weed before rap, it wasn't no heavyweight shyt. They were "trapping" out in the suburban areas of Charlotte, not in the wild hoods where you gotta have muscle to make money. He's not a gooned-out nikka who was running round shooting nikkas---->he was probably in one or two situations where shots were fired, they had guns because everybody has guns, but literally zero people from Charlotte know or knew dude as a certified shooter...

He was known as a comical nikka who loved to rap and sold a little weed, and could fight. He wasn't known as a KO king but cats who seen his scraps say he can hold his own. People like him, never no heavy beef like that, never no reputation as a gangster, etc, and if you listen to his earliest work, you see a more clear picture of who he was before the gangsta image...

Again cats ignore the nuggets these artists drop themselves, he's already spoken on changing his image once his team split after the diaper fiasco. Immediately after that he turned into a serial shooter haha...before that he rapped about being a pretty boy and holding pistols and trying to make money, but it was not the kill em all, bang bang shyt...that all came once they decided to push him in a different way...

I lived in Charlotte as someone who ran the field, had issues out there and caught cases, and still got some associations there to this day. Homie is only 2½ years younger than me, when I was in Charlotte (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, but lived there in 13-14), dude was not on the radar in the streets. People knew him in his suburban section, nobody bending these blocks knew him...

When I was affiliating in Charlotte he was most likely doing small weed runs in the burbs and contemplating his rap career...

His popularity once he started rapping was big though, cats around the city started listening and he had a strong movement around him. I first heard of him from a potna of mine in late '16, early '17. Gave him a spin, nothing more nothing less, and didn't listen to him again until after the diaper shyt, and didn't really get too deep into all of his shyt until after that. But every 6 months when his name came up, it was clear he was growing in popularity and I started fukking with the music...

His earliest music flashed huge potential, so from that vantage I'm not surprised at his Tekashi-like rise, anybody can hear his "potential". The question is how high do you think his ceiling is...

Back On My Baby Jesus shyt (2017) and Blank Blank (2018) are his best work. Nothing has dropped since Blank Blank has been better in quality, the only difference is nikkas didn't know who he was a year ago today. So people hearing him for the first time in the last 10-11 months (after the Walmart shooting) and dont have time or desire to compare his pop shyt with his earlier music, it's easy to like dude and his music...

Rap is similar to the streets and simultaneously different, in the sense that all you gotta do is flick up with hammers and be tatted up and say you a killer or a dealer and everybody eats it up. Whereas if you from that cloth or grew up around people who were, you know or knew of people really in it who didn't look, walk, or talk like the stereotypical street nikka....

And cats really of that background can read those type of individuals more easily than the next nikka. There's probably a couple more, but there is only two other posters on here you really get the sense understand this...

Baby's rise as one of the most popular rappers is great for him, his pockets, and his supporters. He has a lane, but he also cares about being seen as a great rapper, and he has to mature in his sound and style to get the type of respect as a lyricist he wants. Right now he's still new, again, his rise isn't that dissimilar from 69 and this type of attention and popularity will wear off, 99% of his fans couldn't tell you anything about dude on this date last year. Once the "hot new nikka" shine wears off, he'll have to sustain attention off the strength of his actual music...

I'm happy for his success and I think he has it in him to be a better rapper, but I dont know that I see his ceiling as much higher than what it is. I'll be the first one to admit im wrong if 5 years from now he's a better artist with better work and still as popular or more popular than he is now...

But I'm skeptical on his ceiling and all of that imagery as this thugged out nikka was never reality. And this new album, in terms of quality, is trash...

:manny:

he still seems like one judging from his interviews.

then he actually has the clout to talk about killing or fuccin a nikka up :usure:

in interviews and even in raps, he doesn't overdo it

not a fan of the nikka like that, but i never heard him rap about selling dope

he talks about hittin other nikkas bytches and his daughter smiling on FaceTime :leostare:

someone described him as a thugged out Ludacris, fitting desciption :manny:
