I'm not a professor, your statement seems kinda simplistic just like Dames.

Banks make money via loans...to smaller banks or other entities. Entities that take out loans in order to finance activities...

Also...investments can fail...in fact investments are more likely to fail than some catastrophic collapse of the economy or epic devaluation of the dollar.

And I'm pretty sure that depreciation (and inflation)...whether your shyt is in the bank or tied up in investments...will occur regardless. The value of a dollar will still decrease, and thus there's a good chance if all of a sudden the economy collapsed or some financial meltdown occurred, the value of whatever you invested in will probably decrease as well.
