ayo, can one of u brehs break down the def jam ownership history? i know def jam was sold for $100 million in 1999 to seagrams. how much did russel get, how much did lyor get. who owned what percentage of the company etc. when rubin left what did he do with his share? did he sell it to russel? lyor? or to polygram? and how did lyor come to have stake in a company originally owned by russell and rick? or was he also a silent partner? ive been searching the internet and i cant get an understanding of how lyor was russels lil homie, then somehow did a coup to unsurp him.

that dude really came out of nowhere to run that whole enterprise.

and what? Kanye makes good music so I'm not pressed on his fukked up views on a lot of things. I'm entertained by his music. Dame hasn't done anything relevant in damn near 2 decades. When Ye says dumb shyt I call it out too but at least he's relevant.

edit: Share with me these 'life jewels' Dame dropped I might of been too busy laughing at him or shaking my head at his hypocrisy to catch them all.

Russell got a 100 mil, Lyor didnt get shyt, he was staff, not a owner.

Well Russell owned 50%, Polygram owned 50.

Rick Left Def Jam w zero and started def america. Simmular to Dre leaving deathrow.

Where did you read Lyor aquired monies from the sale of Def Jam?

Lyor was Russells promoter back in the Profile days.

Nicca was the pres and thats about it...and that was after Russ left Def Jam.

I understand what he means, and I agree with him on that.

Saving actual paper money is dumb in the long run because you don't get much from doing that. Money is meant to be spent, so it is better to put money into things that will always create more money like starting a business, owning real estate, and playing the money market.

If you get $1,000,000 and you put some away into a savings account, that is dumb. At the very least buy some metal coins and hide it im a safe place because if shyt hits the fan, and the dollar is worthless, you can still buy stuff because metals will always have worth.

Lmaoooooo.. omg

What? Saving paper money is dumb? Its part of accumulating and having wealth... thats never DUMB

You think the Bush familes or Kennedy families or any generations of wealthy families with legacy subscribed to that stupid ass way of thinking? Are u blinded by that dumb ignorant clown Dame? Omggggggg yall.. THINK WHAT YOURE SAYING BREH

Seagram initially balked at the $125-million price asked by Simmons and Cohen, offering to pay slightly more than $90 million, sources said. The two sides settled on $100 million last week in an effort to complete the transaction during 1999 while Seagram was implementing a massive restructuring of its global music division.

t
he article suggests that lyor had a say in the sale which indicates some ownership.

also, when rick left def jam, he must have sold his share to someone. it cant just be left to no one. suge debo'd dre outta his share. did the same thing happen at def jam? russell just assumed control of ricks share?

For the last time. Putting money into a savings account for 10-20 years is dumb because the money is just sitting there losing value. The banks love it because they use your money to make more money for themselves but for us, it is dumb. If you want your money to grow. This is a capatilist society, and what I'm letting you know, is not supposed to happen. This knowledge is for a select few. The banks NEED you to be ignorant to how money works, its how they get so rich.

The Bush, and Kennedies, created wealth by doing exactly what I wrote, they put their money into physical assets, and paper assets. This is well known fact.

It was Russ' s company. Russ just put Lyor in a position of power, he helped negotiate.

He had say because he was pres, was russ the homie and made a impact on urban music in the 90s.

Well, Rick states that Def Jam was becoming something he didnt envision and proposed to Russ that it was the label or the friendship. Russ being the opurtunist took the label, Rick Rubin subsequently, left and formed Def America. Never mentioned ownership or stake percentage.

Do you mean, Ricks share as not getting checks cut?

He had his publishing credit tho.
