Remember the scene in the 5 heartbeats when the studio exec cat showed them the album cover and it was full of cacs, to say ab soul is wrong or being a diva for expressing his grievance with how black hippy is being presented... is like saying Eddie Kane n nem were being divas for finding the cover unacceptable,

that's when nikkas gonna go ...that was some ole racial shyt tho
soul-o mad cause kendrick getting that shine while he in the back tapping a box of newports on the side of his right fist
kendrick doing videos with Pusha T wearing that play clothes shyt, while soul-o in his real play clothes
Thanks ab soul for that p*ssy I got with empathy playing, you'll do great things with or without tde

TDE's fault...should've used Kendrick's victory lap in the industry and current push as the Anti-Drake as an excuse to have a Black Hippy album greenlighted...Interscope would put it out just to capitalize on Kendrick's current buzz and it would be a proper introduction to the masses to the rest of the camp...wait too long and they'll always be treated like K-Dot and the Pips by the media, the industry, and the fans...Oxymoron's pushbacks seem to be evidence of that

I definitely feel what you're saying, TDE should of been dropped something by now, I think a label compilation would have been the best way to go showcasing them all as solo artists.

I can see what they're trying to do though, building them all up and releasing them as solo artists first, so they can establish their own bases before the group shyt. But the longer they wait the bigger the opportunity it seems like they gonna miss.

Hopefully we get Oxymoron before the years out, but shyt doesn't even have a release date yet :sadcam:

I don't think a TDE compilation would make sense right now. This isn't the early 2000s, where people are copping group albums based on one artist's success. And even Kendrick didn't do SUPERSTAR numbers - he only went 1x platinum, it's not like he's hit 2-3x platinum. If you want a group to be successful now, at least 2-3 members need to have built a solo rep for them to be checked for - and while everyone has been building their buzz, no one else's star power has been tested yet where it counts - a commercial debut. Hell, none of the Maybach Music Self-Made compilations have even gone gold - and those have legitimate stars/hit records on them (granted, none of those artists have went platinum, but still).

The "breakout act's album followed by the group/camp/label compilation followed by other solo albums" thing is a time honored tradition in hip hop for a reason, the sh!t works...Cash Money did it with Juvi and the Hot Boys...Nelly and St. Lunatics...50 did it with G-Unit...Ruff Ryders did it with the Ryde or Die joints immediately in the wake of DMX's break out in '98...Cash Money did it with the YM album after C3...

Hasn't REALLY been successful in the past 5-8 years though. The difference with Cash Money is that Drake had already established himself as a star when "We Are Young Money" came out. So Far Gone had already changed the game as a mixtape, and the retail version went gold (not sure if it had already went gold by the time WAYM came out, but it was making its mark). By the time WAYM dropped, YMCMB had two star acts already. The comp was huge at really breaking out Nicki Minaj, though.

I really don't think a TDE group album at this point would be smart, because no one has been proven as a heavyweight yet. They put out that album now and it doesn't do well, the group loses momentum before they've really even gotten started.

I mean what happens when Kendrick is so big that venues only want Kendrick and he has to choose between the two, regulating his friends to entourage. It could effect their ability to put out albums and they themselves have to choose between following their own dreams or being Kendricks shadow. Hopefully they get some good compensation touring as a group.
This nikkaz career is over after that brick he dropped on BET and after he showed he was a yellow bellied coward by not respondin to Drizzy, Asspoose, Meek, Lupe, Joel, and Joe Buttons... nikka is Canibus status
Hahahahaha :russ:

You can't blame Ab Soul that cover is degrading to the rest of the group.

But he just gotta wait his turn, cause he's just as good, if not better, than Kendrick.

Who's dropping their album after Schoolboy Q?
All he need is that Drizzy stimulus package to be as big as Kendrick Minaj... only thing is the alien prolly ruined it.

it is kinda fukked up tho, imagine hearing 'Jim Jones with Dipset' them nikkas would be pissed.

As for Black Hippy breaking up, maybe, but K.Dot will never depart from Jay Rock. EVER. They've been in the trenches since day one, and what yall dont know is, at one time it was Jay Rock that was the leader, and Rock carried him on his back and put him on features.

Remember how Banks rode the backseat like a soldier when 50 was blowin up? You ever see him cry to the media when nikkas was suckin 50's dikk and puttin him in the background with Buck and Yayo in all their pictures n shyt? You on the cover of XXL hush the fukk up.

Banks said it best man. "Everybody's Jordan now, nobody's Pippen"

All these muthafukkin divas just wanna be stars at the end of the day. It ain't about the music. That comes second.
problem is, it doesnt work like that on the westcoast. I dont know if its an ego thing, or gang thing, but you just dont move with one person in the front, you move as a unit. The media even tries to put Tyler in front of the group but he always claims OF. OF plastered on everything, photo-ops always including the whole group. Has he even toured alone? I doubt it.

As soon as one person tries to step ahead, things collapse, see NWA and the Lakers. :troll:

What's wrong with "Kendrick Lamar & Black Hippy"? Is Kendrick on the cover? Yes. Is Black Hippy on the cover? Yes.

It's preferable to what they really meant which is "Kendrick Lamar & His Crew" because that's what they could have and should have said. They're nobodies right now on a gravy train. Ab Soul needs to lighten up and play his role.
