OP what really got red was not paying his taxes. When he was on sanford and son he would asked to be paid in cash with no taxes taken out.
He did that for years and even did that shyt while in vegas.
IRS eventually got him for back taxes and came to his home and took all his shyt. Funiture, cars, clothes and jewelry.....and still he had to pay the IRS back taxes.

He made the mistake by not securing a higher back end royalty from rerun residuals which still are $$$ to this day
Foxx could have been eating well up to his death long after the show cancelled
Sanford and Show makes multimillions in streaming revenue and merchandising every year...
He lived like a rapper with a bad record deal

Also anyone that knew Red will tell you he was a very kind dude and helped all his friends. No matter who they were. Dude put on tons of brothas, sistas, gay folks and non black folks who he was tight with.

My pops was bent when his shyt got raided by the feds. I think the primary reason why he was doing the Royal Family was so he could have some income. There was an interview with him on the set where he said he was tired and the grind was getting to him. Then he wound up dying on the set

I think on tvone hollywood unsung they said Red was like uncle same can get them taxes when I die....
They said Red had in his contract the studio had to pay him case in a suit case with no taxes taken out....
