If your ancestors were enslaved in America than America owes you, if they were enslaved in the Caribbean then you gotta talk to Britain, France and Spain.

Its that simple lets not act like folks dont know what Island they came from, they shout it out every chance they get so to now all of a sudden claim to be Black or American when its convenient is bs.

Should biracial folks get it? I'm talking Gullah dad that's 95% African and 100% Swedish mom.

Both my parents are ADOS, all of my grandparents and great grandparents. At the 2x great level it's one Mexican, a couple of "mulattoes" and the rest identified as "Negro" on the old census records. That AND being 88% west/central African makes my claim easy as fukk.

The challenge is for Team Paper Bag. :sas2: . How Black do you gotta be? :sas2:

You're making my point breh. It's been 4 years and people are still mulling over that point, stalling progress and even battling each other over which term will "work".

And we're talking about reparations for American slavery. Not the Caribbean or France or none of that.
Yeah i was, and Caribbean nikkas gotta relax and let Americans get they shyt first because im almost certain if that precedent is set here it will only put intense pressure on other former Human owning countries in Europe to follow suit and because its a smaller population whos owed by different Euro powers, they might end up getting more back than us.

Who are all these people breh? I've yet to see a march, rally, demonstration, townhall or anything of them trying to get our reparations.

If anything I see cognitive dissonance where one moment they're trying to be included and the next, they're trying to stop it.

This is what I'm talking about when I say "Internet Ass _______"

If Congress ever decides legislation based on tweets and YouTube videos then there's room for concern but until then you're a captive of social media paranoia

On the front end…I think OG Black Americans are the only ones who should get reparations for slavery.

With that said….1) there are some groups that should still get it, but imo is negligible in size. As an example Bahamians in Miami, historically they’ve been in South Florida since the U.S. was still an enslaving country.

2) I think OG Black Americans should get reparations for slavery, Jim Crow, red lining, mass incarceration, etc….all government actions against black people. It’s my opinion, that whether they were aware or not, on some level immigrants chose to come here with these type conditions/oppressions going on.

But you do have to acknowledge the various group of black folks that were effected by everything post-slavery. I lean in the side of not giving it out to all groups (so it can be concentrated), but it’s hard to deny there’s a debate to be had (if the fight goes past slavery, which it should).

it’s easy to derail y’all.

Best argument is this, if u can reasonably pass for white, u get relegated to the lowest priority. First people to get paid will be n1kkas who really do look black and have fear of the police.

Challenge that.
We're having a discussion on an objective way to enforce the distribution of a payout as a result of a policy decision. Your take is based purely on a subjective inference and would provide no utility in solving the problem at hand but would instead add further to the complexity of the issue...

I agree but Black Americans and Carribeans have a complex history because some of them are ADOS especially Bahamians

I watched this Miami documentary a while ago and will watch it again But it goes into it

To add to that...

As Dr. Darity put it: have an ancestor dating back to slavery that can be identified on the census roles of the late 1800s (most of us ADOS folks can do this easily), and have identified as Black for the past 12 years (or your adult life).

Those classified as so-called "biracials" who are half ADOS (and identify as Black) would be considered ADOS and would be entitled to reparations.

America has paid reparations to lots of groups of people. Native Americans, Japanese, Jews, and more.

And to be clear: they all deserved it. Hell when it comes to Native Americans you could argue they didn't get enough.

But when it comes to the people who deserve it the most...black people...suddenly that stirs up so much anger.
It's bullshyt. This isn't a question of IF black people should get reparations. It's how, and how much.

If the Supreme Court doesn’t pass student loan relief that would benefit some white republicans, do we expect them to pass reparations that only benefit Black Americans?
