What is going down in tx can happen in any state. If nyc was hit by a hurricane you would see how much the leaders skipped over things that could have prevented things
Not this extent.

Places that have winter cannot afford to be this unprepared.

Cheap material that is why Texas housing is very cheap. I also heard the soil for texas isn't that great.
probably don't use a lot of insulation in their building based on location or something of that nature.

the pipes should really not have burst unless it was well below freezing.

edit looks like it was what I thought

Insulation requirements are very different that what would be expected in northern states and Canada. Furthermore, most houses are built to dissipate heat (vaulted ceilings, with vents in the attic designed to push hot air out.)

Works well if you’ve lost power during a hurricane, houses are quite liveable for a couple of days without AC, especially if you have a gas range.

global warming about to make whole states overhaul building codes if this becomes regular

I don't recall ppl in NYC being this desolate during Hurricane Sandy

If a hurricane hit nyc you would see a bunch of preventable failure happen. The American mindset is don’t fix it until it breaks.

It’s TX you really think they are going to prioritize anything that has to do with winter. Hell they probably don’t got a plan for a major tornado and they get hit by small ones all the time

Is there nay explanation on what the hell these buildings are made of to cause them to be freezing inside like this? Like we've been thrown straight blizzards on the east coast and I ain't never seen no shyt like this. :dahell:

This is about the power being out and it being so cold is what causes that shyt, not “cheaply made building”. People in cold climates know to keep the water running if they lose power and it’s really cold out. Otherwise pipes would absolutely burst in buildings in NYC or any other cold climate locale. Texans likely don’t know that and for others, the water stopped working. :francis:

If it’s freezing cold and you don’t have heat, pipes are gonna burst. Doesn’t matter if you’re in Texas or Milwaukee....doesn’t matter if it’s “cheap material” or whatever nonsense babble y’all got going in on this thread lol.

without the power outage, most of TX likely wouldn’t of had a problem either.

I work in insurance and The North had pipe bursts every winter. Usually in older urban areas - Baltimore, Chicago, New England, etc.

A lot of times it involves below freezing temps AND a lack of heat. Often situations where an unoccupied row house was unheated AND not winterized properly so a pipe bursts and floods out the adjacent homes. Or the occupants went out of town a few days and didn’t leave their heat on.

I don’t get why we have brethren acting like nary a pipe had burst in America until this week in Texas.
:mjlol:

Are nikkaz really tryna play red state blue state over this?

Damn, out by Austin, I got REALLY REALLY lucky. My neighborhood only lost power for short times like 30 minutes, and water still ran. Everything was alright,

All my boys tho :wow:
