One of the biggest independent platforms in hip hop OnTheRadar was founded in NY

It was founded off the back of the drill scene y’all so out of touch man
Breh stop twisting my point. There's obviously platforms in NY but they ain't buzzing like that. NY needs shows covering interviews and regional rap news. That's what gets an audience and gets exposure.

On The Radar is primarily freestyles and, once again, they pivoted to nationwide upcoming rappers. Since when the hell is G-Eazy a local artist or even a cool artist worth having on?? That's who I just peeped on there and a whole bunch of other weirdos. Salute to OTR for holding it down though.

Doesn’t matter where it’s from NY took it and made it its own

Hip hop in general from NY so what that say?

Nobody raps like NY nikkas now and this drill club production is unique to NY as well

Ole Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ass nikka it’s 2024 ain’t no young nikkas ever rapping like that again :camby:

NY introduced the dancing to drill. But a lot of those beats are from UK Drill which is sonically different from Chicago Drill (which really actually started in Atlanta). I'm not sure who introduced the "raspberry" tongue-noise adlib, whether NY or England.

You know shyts bad when the only people with an nyc accent and actual generations deep roots all live on staten island.

Eh. Maybe to non new yorkers.

The black nyers have thicker accents than the white people today which used to be opposite. but even most the younger heads accents are no way near as thick as they used to be. The old heads crack jokes how the kids sound like they from jersey.

Cardi b one of only rappers imo with the classic nyc accent and even thats with the bx spangglish twist. Most have an ethnic twist to it. The classic nyc accent is not prevalent anymore like it was city wide in every borough. Some borough's you cant tell at all unless you from outside nyc.

Then again my own accent is so thick people dont understand me and i think its like half as bad as my moms and my grandmothers is the WORST. so thick i cant even understand her.. I dont wven think i have one. I 100% cannot talk to fam on the phone idk what anyone ever saying lol. The kids tho, easy to understand. Very clear. Every year it declines.

obviously this is from immigration. Hence the ethnic twists. The reason staten islands accent is like rhat is because only nyc heads move to staten island and most of them are 5 gen deep newyorkers at the very least. Noone really from jersey or outside states moves to staten island, it has slight immigration compared to the rest and heavy white popularion so its accent stayed the most consistant year to year. The entire brooklyn white population moved to staten island.

Outside of the legends we don't really have no one new putting out real music. Do we? How did we fall behind? Trying to make music for girls in the club? Trying to make music for people to dance too? Why did we ever abandon bars and storytelling?

@Peter Popoff what happened to us broski?

Lex the Hex Master just signed to LSP, he's making big moves and reppin Queens

First time i went to queens i was like “why does everyone sound like they from nj”. My boy cried about it in brooklyn all the time. Says he only person in bar with a nyc accent. They all yuppies

Obviously diff sections have it more than others.

:comeon: I’m from here bruh every new NY rapper has a NY accent of course I’m mostly talking for the black and Spanish people from the hood not yuppies and transplants

U telling me Dthang sound like he from New Jersey :dahell:

Breh you moving the goal posts this is why this anti NY shyt is corny :dead:

OTR is one of the biggest independent platforms in the game they do interviews, performances, freestyles and most of it is local based of course they blew up so they do mainstream and international acts too but the focus is primarily local based. If this was another city y’all would be like wow they got a freestyle out Drake and Central Cee, Bryson Tiller doing fake AI OTR freestyles :mjlol: but since it’s NY it’s somehow negative. Dthang freestyle has 18M views.

Buba 100x is another platform where he vlogs with the artists and spends a day with them and does the 20 girls vs 1 rapper shyt shyt does millions of views the kids love this shyt and he now is doing episodes with buzzing acts from different regions but the focus is still mostly NY.

Then you have Kai Cenat the biggest streamer for Gen Z who is also part of the culture and who also has rappers on his show. He had Ice Spice on there and even directed A boogie’s “Did Me Wrong” video.

Then you have a platform like Hazard Lights where the host drives the rapper around and they perform a song or freestyle

Then you have other platforms like Talk of the Town, NY Drill News, and the other IG pages and Reddits and YT reaction pages

If NY platforms aren’t buzzing what platforms are in these other places that are? :dahell:

Bro we can cherry pick rappers all day with and without accents and go back n forth on whos is obvious and whos isnt as nycers and some outta towner woll say they all sound the same.

The young kids today have a way they talk that is more identified as nyc talk than rhe accent is. And I said the younger bladk rappers actually have thicker accents than the white nycers today.

But The classic nyc accent “im walkin heeeuuuuuh” “looked like a toitle in a trenchcoat” “fughetaboutir” steriotypical nyc john gotti type accent dies everyday no matter how thick guys lay it on during interviews (we all do this when we need to, let alone rappers tryna look street and cool for an interview). And on SI, its thicker than anywhere else and higher percentage there than anywhere else. Thats a fact.

And listen its not like it dont happen on staten island either. Pete davidson has no accent to me at all. Neither does that other guy on snl from staten island. They sound and look like yuppies. Idk anyone on SI who sounds like them. Nems grew up on SI. He got one.

demographics changed the city. And i been in brooklyn and been one of only people with an accent. Often. My boy straught up cries about it all the time. Then again, he says he has a nyc accent and imo he sounds like a russian immigrant.

I dont think my accents thick at all yet i cant get into a fight with someone outta nyc without them accusing me of “thinking im a gangsta” and a writer for rolling stone said about me “He had the thickest accent I ever heard in my life”. He was from england. Nyc is more transplant than locals at this point and that has an effect.

The older gens accent is 100% thicker than it is today tho. Thats in perfect english too. Not slang heavy like modern kids. Idk how this is debatable. Mines is thicker than my nieces/nephews. My mom dad aunts uncles are thicker than mine. And my grandparents are damn near indecipherable unless you are right in front of them.

Every region has these local IG and Reddit pages. Why are you saying this is exceptional?:deadrose: These platforms need to grow bigger, or the biggest platforms need to cover the NY scene they're covering. Compare their weekly numbers with No Jumper alone.

You're being straight up weirdo breh. I'm trying to point out NY media needs to get its shyt on lock and give shine to the young nikkas in better ways.

First of all, OTR and Buba are both national oriented and they bringing on rappers from ALL OVER THE PLACE.:dahell:Buba putting on southern rappers like Hunxho more than anyone else.
Second, OTR might have videos that went VIRAL with millions but the average video on there isn't even breaking a thousand views. Even Bay Area rap podcasts doing tens of thousands in average views.

When a local rapper got a tape out, most times they can't even go on a press run if they tried because not enough outlets. Nobody outside their core fanbase knows they got an LP out, and that limited exposure hurts. If you think ion know wtf I'm talking about and everything is fixed, then don't even bother replying to me. Maybe the rappers I'm looking for ain't getting on. Your idols are on there, so you Gucci.

prosper any where on earth
We don’t have the producers like Midwest and south or Cali

Cali has an elite underground scene with alchemist, Larry June, hit boy’s family, mozzy,

Cali is doing what we should be doing Honestly

That drill scene destroyed being creatives and turned into being destructive

Pop smoke was a star because he had charisma

Ice spice took drill and made it into Disney pop

Now if you do drill, your sounding like ice spice which is not the wave for making new acts

And riot is dope producer, but he doesn’t work with anyone else.

We can’t do Jersey house, it’s for jersey

We can’t make club music or go go that’s southern Maryland stuff.

We need to revamp the NY sound and make it successful again.

To add on.. the NY sound was always big drums or 808s with or without samples.

For example: it takes 2, rocwilda, protect ya neck, can’t it be all simple,
