Punk failed. That's it. He was given a title reign that was due to end in the summer of 2012 had he not AGREED to turn heel for the Rock match in January 2013. Remember..he said they were gonna give Bryan the title to face Rock at Rumble 2013 had he not turned heel and he said it outright..he didn't want to turn heel but he was political and wanted that moment over Bryan. That's who Punk is. If he's not in the spotlight, he's whiny and crying.
Yeah, wasn't around for the Summer of Punk and wasn't around until the day after WM when Brock returned. I wasn't impressed with him as a face. Going heel likely gave him a 2nd life. He wanted shyt too quickly, but he was Daniel Bryan before DB. He just wasn't a very bright person.

As I said before, he kept going for shyt he probably shouldn't have, and seemed to be passive aggressive. You can always beat those kind of people with fake acknowledgement and empty promises.

He was still over for a long bit of time, so I can't call him a failure, especially if Cena vs People Power and then Big Show was the ME'S of his initial run. Lesnar vs Cena, Cena vs Rock I was understandable, but you don't bury the champ and still say he's one for such an extended period.

Recognizable? People know of Cena but POPULAR WISE? No fukking way he's more popular than Daniel Bryan. This isn't 2005, folks.

Cena was ANYWHERE near as popular as you think, kid, he wouldn't have been underneath Undertaker year after year at WM until the Rock decided to come out of retirement to wrestle and make his matches above everyone else on the card.

His place on the card is not a function of popularity. His pop culture relevance is. Taker can get all the billing he wants. Cena is still more popular than him.

The Rock is the one who kicked the Undertaker, Blandy, and Cripple H out of the main events of WM. Not Cena. Soon as the Rock matches were over, they went to Danielson and to Lesnar. Cena was regulated to some midcard squash matches over Rusev and Wyatt. They would of never done that to the #3 most popular guy of the era:laugh:

Revisionist history. First off, Cena has been in the main event at Mania 5 times. He was in back to back main events at WM 22 and 23, and again at WM 28-29. The fact that he was placed lower on the card is not an indication of his popularity-- that's old-fashioned thinking. By that logic, Batista/Triple H were bigger than Cena in 2005. Bullshyt. If it took the Rock and not Cena to kick out Undertaker, Orton, and Triple H, why didn't Rock just face those guys in the main event? Answer: Cena was the guy.

And if you add up Cena's non-WM main events, this wouldn't even be a conversation.

No...we acting like he isn't popular because they rely on Lesnar, Floyd, Rock, Trump and other for buyrates, ratings, and other saving techniques that he has failed to draw general interest in for years upon years now.
this would be plausible if the WWE didn't have outside celebs at Mania damn near every year since it was created.

we really acting like Cena isn't popular because the IWC doesn't like him? Really?
Popular to who? Do we count kids, and the parents who are placating them, and just happen to like Cena because their kids do? I discount parents when I way his popularity, and only wrestling fans who were before having kids OR knows 90 percent of the roster by sight.

He wasn't Daniel Bryan before Daniel Bryan. He was given a undefeated streak in ECW...lost to Holly for the first time oddly. They had Morrison aka Metro go over constantly in 2007 until he finally beat him on that ECW show. Won the World title after the MITB cash in a year later but was positioned behind Batista and Blandy on Raw. Serena was a talking point in 09 over her unique look, ass, and her ways. Then he did the pipe bomb thing and got pushed hard.
