He wasn't Daniel Bryan before Daniel Bryan. He was given a undefeated streak in ECW...lost to Holly for the first time oddly. They had Morrison aka Metro go over constantly in 2007 until he finally beat him on that ECW show. Won the World title after the MITB cash in a year later but was positioned behind Batista and Blandy on Raw. Serena was a talking point in 09 over her unique look, ass, and her ways. Then he did the pipe bomb thing and got pushed hard.
How is that not Daniel Bryan in a nutshell? It's just his push was more sustained and he got white hot. He was able to overcome a burial attempt, unlike Punk. It was likely Punk's burial made the fans rebel for him against his. Same body type, same heat....same players seemed to keep them on the B team.

His place on the card is not a function of popularity. His pop culture relevance is. Taker can get all the billing he wants. Cena is still more popular than him.

Cena is popular in our culture? Since when?

Revisionist history. First off, Cena has been in the main event at Mania 5 times. He was in back to back main events at WM 22 and 23, and again at WM 28-29. The fact that he was placed lower on the card is not an indication of his popularity-- that's old-fashioned thinking. By that logic, Batista/Triple H were bigger than Cena in 2005. Bullshyt. If it took the Rock and not Cena to kick out Undertaker, Orton, and Triple H, why didn't Rock just face those guys in the main event? Answer: Cena was the guy.

And if you add up Cena's non-WM main events, this wouldn't even be a conversation.

He was in the main event for those 3 years because of the Rock factor...then u have go back to WM 23 where his match was clearly not as hyped as the Trump match and damn sure didn't make headlines like the Trump match. That's a fact. Lol@revisionist.

Batista was definitely ahead of Cena first half of 2005...what on earth had u thinking he wasnt?

NO, no, no..it wasn't no MEME for a hot second. It was done for MLB teams, College teams. and Football teams. It was ESPN featured.[/qu You've never seen Cena put in that kind of spotlight. Ever. During the rapper years when he was at his most popular? Nah..never. He hit his ceiling at Summerslam 2005 in a Jericho match. That was it.

And everyone who did the YES chant damn sure knew who did it by the end of the night.

It was a thing in late 2013-early 2014 for a few months. It caught on with some sports teams and then it faded. A meme. For a hot second.

Bryan was put under Miz and losing left and right...only got the US title after his firing and returning post Summerslam 10. Bryan was built up to lose to Sheamus by WM 28 while Punk was beating everyone except Cena and Taker.

Since he appears on major talk shows and has prominent guest roles in Hollywood movies, wherein he is instantly recognizable.

No wrestling match was making more headlines than a Trump match.

First, Cena not main eventing Mania is an indication of how unpopular he was. Then, Cena peaked in 2005,a year where he didn't main event Mania that year. Now, he wasn't more popular than Batista in early 2005, at his "peak."

Just nonsense. All around. Pick and argument and stick to it.

Lol...the World Series Champs and Super Bowl champs tweeting him was a hot second, eh? Hahaha

Yep. He was on fire for a hot second. Just like Punk was on fire for a hot second after the pipe bomb promo (though Bryan arguably surpassed that). It was almost equally brief.

Bryan doesn't appear any and everywhere? His retirement didn't blow Twitter off the fukking map? Wtf:laugh:

Of course no wrestling match made higher headlines than Trump..so stop acting like Cena was anything on that card. Match was dead compared to Taker vs Batista.

Cena damn sure wasn't out drawing Batista first 6 months of 2005. Are you ok, kid? Lol

Punk wasn't that on fire..ratings were the same and he didn't make a dent in buyrates. Below Nexus level
