The 3 albums he put out I keep them on rotation like they dropped yesterday. D was just in his own lane back then. Africa is a slick track, however you need to hear the acoustic version of it and Spanish Joint. I will dig them out and up them here. Between Brown Sugar and Voodoo I have to go with Voodoo, it has a more soulful almost raw feel to it. Pretty sure I wore both of them cd's out as I bought new copies a few years back. Also check out Okayplayer Sam Champ presents D'Angelo Live....another one I'll up....

3 albums? you includin' his live london cd?

here are the "acoustic"/ piano versions of both africa and spanish joint :mjcry:

Last time I played "When We Get By" this year I played it straight for 2 days:pachaha:

Same. I played it over and over then end up looking at myself like. :dahell:

Can't get enough of that melody though.

When we get byyyyyy :lawd:

that's how i was when i first heard his cover of the s.o.s. band's "tell me if you still care" :obama:

that song was already a favorite of mine but his version made me realize even more jus how great this song is :wow:

i can understand why many say that but honestly, i think brown sugar is the better album. voodoo is cool but brown sugar was just incredible

voodoo is more of a jam album, it's mostly about the sound. whereas brown sugar imo was about both lyrics and sound

but voodoo is funky :wow:

I use to say this same thing but I've been listening to Voodoo a lot lately and this album is damn near perfect. IMO both albums are damn near perfect it's just what you prefer lyrics & sound on Brown Sugar or funky and loose feeling of Voodoo.
