I can't even rep you enough for this, especially the live stuff. :salute:
I know a lot of us be trying to look for audio and everything, and decided to just up everything for everyone to have in one place. I also added his tribute to Prince on Fallon under "Miscellaneous" since YouTube took it down.

He said that Black Messiah was D'Angelo's best album in his opinion. :D

Ah. I'd agree actually. The highs on Voodoo are higher imo, but overall as an ALBUM Black Messiah is better and more consistent.

Questlove said there was enough complete material for another album immediately after BM came out. I'd imagine he's been revising those tracks and adding new ones. When that process ends...who knows lol

Yeah definitely! The consistency is one reason why I rate BM as D’Angelo’s best album too. It’s just a beautiful listen from start to finish and I also think that D has shown growth from Voodoo as well.

Yeah, they were talking about a “companion piece” for some time now. D did an interview with Rolling Stone in 2015 mentioning it. And then there were talks like earlier last year about a new song called “Red Dress” too. But since then I haven’t heard anything else in regards to the new album. I also think he’s recorded a lot of new stuff since then though. I am really curious about the sound of the record. I’m wondering if it will be a Part 2/extension of BM, or will he experiment further?

I'm trying to collate the best live recordings from Black Messiah, video or audio and compile my own live album since D's just keeping it on his floppy disks

Are there any good versions of 1000 Deaths / Prayer / The Door on the internet at all?

Best live recording of “The Door” is from the Spotify Sessions recordings. I had a live recording of “Prayer” on a live album that someone recorded in 2015. It was a show he played overseas. It was like the intro of the concert set. And I think there’s one of “1000 Deaths” too. I’ll let you know when I find it.

voodoo holds a special place in my heart bc it was the soundtrack to my summer when it came out

but black messiah is just a better album. voodoo is the work of a man still navigating the depths of black music...and trying to develop his own voice throughout all those influences

black messiah you hear a man whos ingrained those influences but bled out some shyt thats familiar yet fresh and new and truly his own

D is fukkin masterful on this.

I feel the following albums are a companion piece to each other and tells a story when you connect them

Outkast-Aquemini -- The Roots-Things Fall Apart -- D'Angelo - Voodoo -- Common Like Water For Chocolate -- Erykah Badu - Mama's Gun

Also if u notice D, Com and Erykah's album all came out in 00 and the actual color of the CD represented the colors of the Pan-African Flag

Voodoo - Black
LWFC - Green
Mama's Gun - Red

One of my favorite live renditions of "Send It On" done by the king. Just the piano work and his voice. I think this was in 2012 when he was doing his set of comeback concerts overseas before BM's release.
