I am far from a Celtics fan but let's give him until the trade deadline to see what happens. I think it's clear he wants to trade for Butler (possibly PG but I don't see Bird doing it). If that falls through, then you can't critique him for not getting Boogie.

What key players? Jaylen Brown? Terry Rozier? Washed up Amir Johnson?

They could've traded for Cousins and still had enough leftover to go after Butler or George. It's another missed opportunity, which has been a recurring theme for Ainge
check the celtics board on realgm. Some of the most delusional fans ever. Talking about demarcus destroying their team like they are about to contend with the fukking lineup of al horford and kelly olynyk :mjlol:  they said kelly olynyk fits their defensive schemes

What could is a 2nd seed when you have legitimately zero chance at the title as you're a pseudocontender? :mjlol:

They are not beating Cleveland with or without boogie.

Y'all nikkaz treating DeMarcus Cousins like he's Kevin Garnett or some shyt. He can ruin the chemistry in boston

They think Gordon Hayward is gonna be the savior of this team :skip:

watch danny ainge offering peanuts for jimmy then ending up with 2nd pick and repeating the curse of 2nd picks by drafting a bust

I think Boston realizes there's not a trade out there that can compete with Lebron in his prime. They're waiting it out basically.

this one might not be all on ainge. apparently divac was going around telling everybody that cousins wasn't being traded, and they even turned down better deals than this (drummond). im guessing the owner wanted this and thinks buddy is the next GOAT

not sure celtics wouldve been able to get him that cheaply, if at all

So you think they win the title with Boogie? A top 3 pick will definitely be great for the C's. We aren't fukking with the Cavs or Warriors any time soon regardless. We got a potential core of Fultz/Brown/Porter (or Ayton, Bamba, and that euro nikka) for the future. When all those guys decline, the C's will be the next dominant team.

Win the title with Boogie? Don't know...be a title contending team? Of course...

Celtics not fukking with the warriors? They have played them as tough as anybody in the regular season...and I think if you flip that pick for Butler then the C's can absolutely give the cavs a good run and maybe beat them in the playoffs...

Your best player is IT and he is 28. Your second or third best player is Hortford and he 30. When 2 of your top players are that age you are built to win now. I don't see any player that they are going to take in this year draft that is going to make a big difference on their team now.

I don't know about Fultz / Brown/ Porter being a core. They seem like complimentary pieces to put around 1 or 2 great players...

I also don't subscribe to the "we got to wait for this other team to fall off in a few years" line of thinking...I wonder how many teams never made a move over the last 20 years cause they kept expecting the spurs to fall off...i wonder how man teams didn't make a move thinking OKC was going to be at least a WCF caliber team for the next 5 years before KD left...I wonder how many teams didn't make a move cause they thought the Warriors were unbeatable only to see them lose 3 straight in the finals to basically two guys...GS has their own problems cause after this year they going to go from paying Steph almost nothing to paying him Max money...so the days of them ever having a deep bench are pretty much over

Waiting out for who? Who is that player that's gonna vault them to title contention in one swift move? The word is that they still won't be able to hang with Cleveland if they traded for Cousins, Butler or George so no big deal in missing out on them.

Kevin Durant rejected them, Curry has little incentive to leave Golden State, New Orleans sure as hell isnt trading Anthony Davis now, Harden is thriving in Houston. So who is this player they need to wait it out for? Does he even exist?

Im saying theyre waiting for Lebron to fall off. 5 years from now when Lebron 36-37 i think its fair to say that the Celtics will be a very good team. This is also a franchise who won a title not too long ago so they're not overly desperate either.

I think avery bradley and Jae Crowder are more valuable than Horford

Lol, by that time Giannis, Embiid & Porzingis will be in their primes.

Better pray Terry Rozier becomes the star Ainge thinks he or they knock the pick this year out the park

I feel like they're gonna get Drummond :mjcry:

Supposedly they don't want Drummond because they don't think he fits the offense. I could buy that logic if Amir Johnson hadn't been the starter for the past 2 years

Believe it or not, regardless of what @KevJ thinks of my take, I think he's kinda right on this. It's not the end of the world that the C's didn't get Cousins. I don't think Ainge's asset collecting was contingent on getting Cousins in particular.

BUT,

I don't know who Ainge is waiting for, but KG 2.0 isn't gonna appear out of the sky. Who is he waiting for? If that's Butler, go for it. If that's George, fine. but he's running out of targets and merely drafting and keeping every player is gonna cause those assets to depreciate. Some of those players are better used as assets than as players. If the goal is to wait for the Jaylen Browns of the world to help you win, the Horford signing, as much as I defend it, will look puzzling.

As for the Cousins trade itself, Kev, even you can admit now that if that's all the Kings were gonna get, they coulda waited.
