I mean I agree all the 2nd round picks are practically meaningless but the Nets are trash and we have their 1st round picks for the next three years, we could potentially get a lottery pick from Dallas next year especially if Ellis & Chandler leave and they don't get suitable replacements. Plus we have all of our 1st rounders.

Because those picks are never guaranteed. Look at the Sixers this year, night of the lottery they had a chance to come away with 3 lottery picks. Instead they get one. Now moving forward those picks are looking less and less valuable
For instance if my Lakers make a big FA move and sneak into the playoffs, that picks turns into a late teen/early twenty one. Not that great
Point being, teams will always be hesitant on overvaluing these future picks. For a fan they're great to have, because if everything breaks right you get a steal.
