Usually when we talk about the light skinned/dark skinned debate its focused around black women, which is understandable. Even when black dudes are incorporated into the conversation its only in a joking manner, as evidenced by the countless dark-skinned/light skinned memes all over social media. But a question for dark skinned dudes: were you ever jealous of lighter complected black dudes? Did you ever have any type of real hatred? How common do you think this issue is with black males? Hopefully this opens up a serious dialog that usually never happens between black males.

Maybe when i was younger, They usually get a much broader range of types of girls based on their looks. More specifically, white chicks feel more comfortable with lighter skin guys. However, as i got older my parents taught me that i should actually pity these people, for they grow up their entire life with identity issues because they arent truly black or truly white.

Houston to LA like I'm Robert Horry.
Nope. Everyone in my immediate family is light-skinned, except me. I never hazed light-skinned men because its just not right and I would be denigrating men who look like my father. I was never jealous of them either.

Basically same family situation too. Stuff didn't even register to me until I went to a college with a large black population and Twitter came about.

when all the light-skin/dark-skin jokes involving Black men started a few years ago they were funny...for about two weeks :beli:

after the first two weeks the jokes weren't even funny anymore, I actually started to worry becuz the light/dark skin obsession was mostly a Black female thing, from girls in school to grown women. Not sayin that wasn't fukked up either.

but once the light-skin/dark-skin jokes became a trend and mainstream with Black dudes I was just like :snoop:
this is the last thing Black men need, we already dealin with enough sh!t as is,
and honestly.....the sh!t is straight up mad :wrist::wrist::wrist:

Never thought I'd see the day when niccas became that obsessed with other niccas complexion. After the funniest jokes were used I honestly thought Black dudes would chill and move on to other funny sh!t :manny:

To answer OP question, me personally NO, never been jealous of the next niccas complexion. I'm a brown-skin nicca myself, so I neva got hit with jokes about being too dark or too light, plus I've always looked at it like we're all black anyway.

We all know about the Willie Lynch system and our history in general, but it was still sad to see black males soundin like chicks I went to middle school and high school with on some "that redbone bytch think she cute" type sh!t.

Just sad :mjcry: ................and mad feminine

I think so. Darksin men rag on lightskin men for no reason. p*ssy, soft, fakkit, bytch and all they saw was his face.
I was in the Booth yesterday and there was a thread about pdidy smaking up drake. The lightskin bashing was crazy sick. They were hype that diddy smacked drake purely because drake was lightskin. Thats when i realized that darkskin men arent as confident as they try to seem like they are.

Or maybe dark skin men are so confident they make fun of those they think are lesser.

Heres the quotes

I don't see how dudes clowning lightskins--like people clown fat people--is proof darkskin dudes are "jealous" of light skins? Lightskins get clowned because they're weak and never coming back into style. That's why. :russ:

I was randomly looking around the Coli and came across this thread, but dude who was talking about the experience in the UK is right

Growing up I was called "blick", "midnight”, I was asked if I was burnt, etc and I can't lie the shyt kinda hurt. But for some reason it's only come back to hit me again over the last few years because I’ve not heard anyone say anything to me about it. But I've never been jealous of lighter skinned people, I’ve never want to be lighter like a Steph Curry or Drake. I come from Africa. Although I was born in London, my parents are Nigerian and Sierra Leonian. So I am 100% purely African. So I also see my people from these countries and see me in them.

My only thing is that I wish the comments had never happened otherwise I wouldn't have been none the wiser. In 99% pictures I just look like a black guy, similar to Kevin Hart complexion. I know he gets some comments about his complexion but I have seen his pictures multiple times and he doesn’t even look crazy dark. I look at another person who people call dark, Wesley Snipes and he isn’t even dark to me at all. Again just a black man. But I follow Michael Blackson on Instagram and every other comment is “you’re so black”, and this is from other black people.

I’ve had no problem dating women either, of all races. So it’s not affecting me that way. The last time I recall someone mentioning my complexion was a white tattooist who was taking a booking for another tattooist and asked me “does she know how dark your skin is”. Now I don’t know if thats from a white person perspective aka does she know you’re black or does she know you’re very dark.

I can’t like it’s kinda in the back of my head whether being lighter would make things better or whether I am jealous of light skinned people. But besides the bullying in my earlier days no. I am not jealous. But yes, I think the mindset it has put me in maybe would had made me think differently about my complexion from a younger age

But I see my dark skin brothers winning all over the globe and makes me feel better about myself no matter my complexion.

Exactly. Its something that truly only existed in the form of insults as a child and then it was never mentioned again.
Yes I've heard women say they like a light skin complexion, but I have never heard black women say they hate a dark complexion.

I'm with you OP, If I had never heard the insults as a child, this would be a completely foreign concept to me.

I love the way I look.... :dame:

I've only ever had one woman (girl) say it and it was when we were in secondary school, so around 13 years old and she asked if I supported "Blackburn Rovers" (a football/soccer team in the UK). But that's the only female, the rest were guys

Yes because it's like u could be light skinned and funny looking, ugly, soft, lame, weird, socially inept, awkward, introverted, effeminate, broke, no game having, mean, or just fuked up and can STILL PULL just because u light. Us darker people have it where we have to be all that to pull.

That's his schtick.... And I hate that about his comedy... He's so one dimensional but could be so funny...
